I had a bit of an epiphany at Classic Dirt 9 at Lithgow this year, as I walked thru the amazing machinery I was transported back 35 years to when I was a very average C grade MXer and a fairly promising enduro rider.
I loved it, I was young again, no crook back and dodgy knee, full head of hair and no belly!:D
I couldnt let go of this and in the past few months my mates and I have been bench racing like never before!'
Of course as we are getting on, we were really fast!:rofl
Any way, we have decide to let the bullshit stop when the flag drops :deal
So the big bike touring is taking a bck seat this year as I chase my dream, the back has been OK for a while now,and the knee is never getting any better, so I,m going for it!!!!
So my crew and I are evolving from STAG

    To TEAM STAG VMX

So who else is into this gig?:ear
And no need to add links to Ozvmx, etc I know about them all, I.m just trying to keep my internet browsing to ADV and several highly reseached porn sites:evil

And I'd like to give a big shout out to all the inmates who responded to my wanted ad, I would have like them all, but a PE was what I really wanted as it was the bike I had most success on back in the day
I was always a Anthony Gunter/Suzuki fanboi, Grunt looked like the type of guy that would have a few schooies with you down the pub then murder a hamburger with the lot, while Gally looked like he'd want to take you on a half marathon then feed you macro biotic lettuce and shredded carrot!:D

    I'm with ya, Dave.
I don't get to anywhere near as many events as I'd like to because I work a lot of weekends, but will be making a bigger effort to do less work in 2013! :lol3
The PE looks like a really good thing. There's lots of crap for sale out there, but that one looks like a good, honest bike. Well done! :D
    If you see a 70's Mercedes wagon, towing a 70's PE250 and a 70's Ossa, that'll be me!
Come up and buy me a beer! :freaky

I picked up this PE off ebay a while back. I've been slack, all I've done to date is have the frame blasted and painted. But, it's my new years resolution to have it finished in 2013.

    Great thread!:D
Probably won't make it to many/any events this year but very interested as I just brought my neighbours IT 490!:evil
So, as I'm a bit younger (34) the early 80's, and earlier, was before my ridin' time but can't wait to get stuck into the VMX/Vinduro gig. Will keep watchin. :clap

Mmmmmmmm PE! I have some great memories of those things, but my all time favourite was the big IT490:D

I found this on a scrapheap a while back......

I doubt I'll race it, just use it to stuff about in the dirt. Thats the problem with old 2 strokes though eh, they get into your blood and even after years and you're sure you've shaken it off they come back and bite ya.
Have fun with that PE Dave, and keep us posted!

Nice thread . I raced VMX for ten years or so & had quite a collection of bikes & parts . Haven`t raced the last 2 years . Sold a few bikes but still have a few oldies in the shed . Like a lot of others I keep thinking back to the bikes I had through the seventies & eighties . Probably had a new bike every 2 years when I was racing seriously back then , should have kept a few , would have saved a fortune on restoration costs .

Yeah, don't race vmx, but play around with a few old dirt bikes of my childhood. I'm going to tell my kids to never sell anything. That way when they're older they don't waste all their time trawling ebay and paying stupid money to get it all back.

How fussy are the people running these sort of events, are they purists? or don't worry if you turn up on a tricked out 'roadie' conversion???

Wouldn't care what it was as long as it fit into the class of it's year with no later model parts. So if it's pre 75 for exampleit has to be period correct for that era.

So if it's a '75 frame with '74 motor, it would be classified as a '75? :deal
what about a newer motor / older frame ????, what ever is the newest or the frame because of the compliance plate???????? :huh
    Cheers
