Riding out from Colorado this week, heading north and west and arriving on the California coast eventually. From there, probably south.
Given the lateness of the season, I'm debating packing camping gear vs the cost of getting rooms.
What would be typical autumn weather for this part of the world? I'm from Minnesota so no stranger to cold but I'm also a geezer and need a certain degree of comfort.

Looks like the 'pre-rainy' season has started. Couple days wet, couple days dry. Temps in the mid-60's on the coast. Mid 70's to mid 80's inland.

Weather forecast can be found here... http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/eka/

Leave the camp gear and plan to credit card camp. Count on fog, fat air, and chilly wet mornings on the coast, and chilly mornings and evenings inland with middling temperatures during the day. You will find most of the hotels around these parts will have changed their rates and will prolly have rooms available.

Cooling trend over the weekend. We'll be inland and in the Sierras, temps are still moderate.
If it's too cold at the coast just come inland a few miles 'till it clears up. LOTS of places to camp, very comfortably.

I would rather camp it any day fo sho.
A bag, pad and tent is what, 10lbs?

Lots of places to stop and eat.

Haven't camped yet; when that sun goes down the temp plummets. Here in central Oregon it's cool and breezy but clear after this morning's drizzle.
    Should reach the coast tomorrow.

You've missed the weather... a fairly major weather system is coming in to the PNW. Rain with snow down to 4,000 feet. Looks like rain all week.

I went out for the last 2 days of summer weather.
Here's sunset at Sinkyone Wilderness. It was 80 degrees on the beach, warm all night and no fog in the morning.

And view from camp... yes, the sunlight was that color! Gorgeous.
Waves on the beach were booming all night. Crescent moon slipped
    into the water later on.
