I lived at Plattsburg AFB when they transitioned to FB-111s. They would accelerate out over Lake Champlain on full burner. Amazing sight.

Friend of the family was a SAC Lt. Col. Summer '75 he gave my dad and me a tour of the flightline at Plattsburgh AFB. Got to sit in the cockpit of one of those FB-111's.

It blew my 13yr old airplane lovin' mind.

...at Air Venture last year. He was killed when he crashed her a month later. The aircraft was destroyed. She was one of only two Super Corsairs still flying. A third is on static display in the Northwest.

I am on the fence on this....part of me says your plane do with as you will...other side says she is a grand old lady give her some respect.

Nothing....NOTHING sounds like these big piston warbirds.....it is a sound that should never stop.

I am too stupit to imbed but just listen to this video...turn it UP!

While I understand the sentiment, putting warbirds like these in museums, never to fly again, is the antithesis of respect. These machines were built to fly, and allowing younger generations to see and hear them in the air is much more valuable than letting them accumulate dust. The risks are worth it.

air racing of these warbirds goes back to the years immediately after the war. Technically its historically correct use!

Not terribly exciting but talk about a busy airspace! Fast forward to about 2:18.

    agreed and agreed and agreed.

Short story. I have a friend, a female friend who texted me the morning of sunday on our last airshow. She was bored, home alone. I think in her mind it was, "ok, hang with a friend, then go out drinkin and causin trouble". When I met her at the gate. She came in while there were 4-5 flights of t6s, t28s, t34s etc up. I was sitting on the bed of my truck, she got out looking upward with a wide eyed wonder. I said "cool aint it" She said, "I get it now". Keep in mind. This is a chick, with full tattoos, hangs around the rockabilly, biker, vintage drag, hockey watchin, baseball watchin chick. She then says, "I always thought these airshows were about guys waving their dicks at each other, testosterone driven self important look at me shit, but now I understand". She had been watching, head out the window the whole drive in. Then I took her down to show center for the bombers, Matt Younkin and his twin beech, and finally the thunderbirds. 2 weeks later I texted her and said, hey want to go to sun n fun. One word reply....."YES"

Yes, we have a convert ladies and gentlemen!

    at show center.

    Nice! :clap

The issues I have nowadays getting people to go out to airshows concern the crash at Reno in 2011. Too many have seen the footage on TV, and as a result, they won't even consider going.

This year is the 50th anniversary of the air races, and it's going to be a tougher job to please the crowd without any military participation. The airshow portion of the event has not been strong in years, and the noise and pageantry of the Thunderbirds, Blues, or the Canadian Snowbirds made up for a lot of that.
In no way to I mean to imply that the acts that are booked at Reno do anything but an exemplary job, but there's not much variety.

It's great to hear of another convert.
