Three amigos headed east of Phoenix metro area to play in the low desert while the temps still allow.

    4-Play - KTM 600 XC/EXC monster
    Slowred - KTM 350 XC-W
    Yardstick - KTM 530 EXC

Heading south from Superior into Telegraph Canyon.

We took a newer path toward the first big mine in the area.

Ajax mine is that way. But we saw tire tracks going a different direction and decided to explore something I hadn't even mapped.

    Then things got interesting.

I scouted ahead and reported back that it didn't look so bad in the 100 yards or so that I hiked.

    "Technically it's doable!"

But we settled on doing it the "easy" way.

This is obviously a favorite spot for the rock crawling crowd.

    The rocks are polished smooth.

It takes careful foot placement to walk through here without a bike.

    4-Play up next.

    He's braver than I am.

I put my helmet back on to walk my bike down.

We saved Slowred's lighter "mountain bike" for last.

I think this series tells a lot.

The next waterfall didn't look as bad.

But there were no soft places to fall. High penalty for failure.

The wash would let us cruise for a short distance.

And then throw another rock garden in.

    They were all rideable.

This one was a lot smoother than it looked.

The rock crawler wash dumped us into unfamiliar territory. We took a couple of wrong turns looking for the Devil's Backbone section and decided to move on.

A sharp turn out of the wash at the desert floor took us on a 2-track roller coaster to here.

    Great views looking south.

    And north.

The road took us much farther east than normal.

And we came out on the road that leads to Martinez Mine.

4-Play explains that there is another nasty hill over there somewhere.

On familiar trails again, 4-Play and Slowred shot off.

The hard, ledge filled terrain makes the tendons in my arm freak out so I took in the scenery.

And took these kinds of things a little slower than normal.

The giant bee-hive looking Coke Ovens.

This is always a big gathering spot for Jeeps, side-by-sides, quads and bikes.

On the way out I noticed this little stone structure.

I didn't stop soon enough to get the full effect of the tree tunnel close to the river.

Tilted picture taken while riding. :lol3
    [IMG]

Green desert - for now. I might have to frame this one for later in the year when everything goes brown.

The last picturesque canyon on the way out.

Since I'm still in recovery mode, 4-Play and Slowred took pity on me (even after the crap I got us into in the beginning) and we hit the road back rather than retracing our path.

They overshot this turn. That was probably a good thing with the tailgater behind me. I didn't need to brake any harder.

    Slowred on the move.

    And hitting it!

    Trials tire dust.

It was a very fun ride! Next weekend's ride should be good at a more relaxed pace, too.

Great RR Yardstick! I had a blast. :clap
That large waterfall we came down was made "easier" by the placement of a few large rocks. It would have been a real challenge without doing so.
4play must have been hungry on the return trip. I couldn't even keep his dust in sight! :lol3

The desert was really beautiful with all the green and spring flowers out. Soon it will be hot and brown. I'm glad we were able to get this ride in. :thumb

I wouldn't recommend trying to get a large group through the waterfall. It would slow things down to a crawl. However, the rest of the wash was really fun. Maybe the group could split and the sadistic riders could tackle the wash.
