Thought it was about time to get the ball rolling on a Phoenix to Lake Havasu ride! I'm interested in doing it at least once with an overnight stay. I would also be interested in doing it as the usual high speed, low drag type run. :evil

Who is in and what weekend will work best for each type of ride?

I would be up for this depending on the dates. I don't want anything planned on my input so i won't offer any dates. If I can make it I will. Cheers

Dates are what I'm looking for too. I have a few things booked up already. I could probably make any of: 11/3, 11/10, 11/17, 12/8, 12/15, 12/29 -- of 2012 unless we're doing a Coke Ovens prerun in there or I do the Rug Road ride (haven't decided yet). Just about any dates in 2013 work so far.

Let's try and do this after the 1st. of the year, then I will be back home!!

This is always a fun ride, the single track is good too.

What about the yearly Oatman Massacre ride? Back to back maybe?

I have no problem with doing this ride a couple of times. We can probably add variety with each trip to make them unique. I know an *interesting* trail on the way back that I'd like to try again. :evil

Sounds interesting. Got a route that connects out of Havasu?

I'm in. Pick a weekend (just no this one) - time to give the newly aquired 950SE a good long ride and live out of the giant loop for a day.

As an aside and BTW I think I'm going to do one of the following loops on Saturday if anyone want's to join in
(Just got the 950's suspenders back from the tuner and it's time to see a Vtwin roll up and over some interesting terrain)

Florence JCT -> Ajax Mine Trl -> Telegraph Canyon Rd -> Superior -> Hewit Station RD loop
    - or -
Happy Camp Rd -> Crest Trail - Hewit Canyon Rd loop

I've done both of these on the 530 (and a long-gone 690). The 530 makes it cake. We'll se how I feel on the 950 - I'm little worried about the downsides of a heavier front-end and futile wheel spin in the attempt to lighten it :eek1

I like the idea for a Havasu run and would love to tag along if possible.
Not sure what this all entails as far as skills go so may or may not be able to do it, if you could PM me with details that would be great.
    Thanks

Wild Bill: There's a big hill from the Ajax Mine area that could be interesting on a big bike in the direction you outlined. Sounds like fun, though.

braknstuf: I added the RR's from the 2010 and 2011 rides to Havasu to the first post in the thread.

Yeah! That's the one. Gotta keep the momentum and choose a good line. It'll be a great test IMHO of what I can do on the 950. I did that loop last week on the 530 - the monsoons this year really degraded the quality of the road on that climb from the canyon all the way up (good proving ground) :evil

FWIW - I have Thur-Sun (8th,9th,10th,11th) off next week if anyone is interested in doing the Havasu ride on any of those days.

I would be interested in joining in on this ride if you guys can wait on me with my KLR :D. I read the 2010 and 2011 RR and there is no way I'm going to get anywhere near 100 MPH on the KLR. I am just getting into adventure riding (I've been riding XR's ever since I was 7 or 8 though) as I bought my bike last spring. It would all depend on when you go and If my schedule would allow for it. I'm guessing I would be more likely to be able to go after January 1st.

Anybody free for an overnight this weekend? Mrs. Yardstick and I will be credit card camping. She hasn't seen Swansea, so I'm thinking about that route on the way out. A couple of years ago we found a cool route back through "Havasu Heights". There's a short part that is a bit rocky and technical, but we did it 2-up without a problem.
