Micanopy was named after the legendary Seminole Indian, Chief Micanopy. The town is perhaps best known as the setting for the Michael J. Fox flick "Doc Hollywood."

Pretty kewl place, and it's right off of I-75 so it's very near the areas that we are talking about.

That puts you on the path to Yeehaw Junction. Go to the intersection of Rt. 441 and Rt. 60 (just a mile from Exit 193 on the Florida's Turnpike) and check out the old trading post, the Desert Inn. Their website is at http://www.desertinnrestaurant.com/ . Not sure if they have reopened the Brothel Museum or not, but otherwise the place is a hoot. I may run down there this weekend and stay there (they proudly proclaim "always pass all health inspections") before exploring the Everglades a bit. :1drink

441 around the eastern bank of Lake Okeechobee is decent riding. The last time that I was down there we unexpectedly ran into a traffic jam in the town of Okeechobee, of all places. Indiantown was kewl -- I stopped for food and fuel back in October and felt like I was returning to Mexico because there wasn't a single native northamericano in the entire town as far as I could see.

Yes...if you go through Waldo, go 5-10 UNDER the posted speed limit. I used to know the mayor, but I'm not in AP Economics anymore, so my connection is gone. :D

I think Waldo and Starke suck. I also think Micanopy and Ocala suck. I am glad you guys find these areas interesting, 'cause after spending 21 years in the North Florida area, I sure don't. :rofl

OK ... doesn't look like the book will be in print in time for Bike Week. So if you want to know more about Daytona and Northeastern Florida in general feel free to download a .PDF copy at http://buccaneerpublishing.com/Secret.htm . There you can read all about Waldo, Starke, Micanopy, and all the other weirdness of this part of Florida.

Seriously, I want to make the information in the book, PirateJohn's Most Unique Guide To Motorcycling In Northeastern Florida, available to folks on this list going to Bike Week. My guess is that I'll leave the link up for the next few weeks or until I get printed copies, whichever comes first.

    Enjoy!
