A long time ago Gunner the yellow labroador and Kodie the siberian husky were two lucky dogs that got to roam around the acres of the Surprise Valley Ranch in Central Oregon.

I don't have any pix of Gunner he was gone before I came into the story, Mr. Dual Sport will have to dig one up to share. Those dogs were best buds. A few weeks ago Kodie was getting too sick and had to be put to sleep:cry
Now it's time to go for a ride to bring the boys back home to the ranch together for good.

It was a nice walk down the canyon to the creek where we spread the ashes.

Sorry for your loss. I lost my Doberman of 12 years, several years ago. They definitely become a member of the family. But I believe that as long as we keep them in our head and in our heart, they're not truly gone. :raabia

The Surprise Valley has always been one of my favorite. I hope they enjoy roaming the surrounding hills for many moons to come! :beer

This was a nice, yet I'm sure hard thing to do. Boy, I hope my riding pard Georgie out lives me. But if not, I now have a good idea of what to do. Thanks for sharing.

    Thanks all for the comments.
I'll just put up a few pics so Gunner gets his turn.
I was the caretaker of this ranch for a number of years. The 3 of us were lucky enough to have tons of acreage to play on!

Man, that's tough but I really like the way you handled it!

I had two black labradors that were best buds for years, both had to be put down when their hips and spines gave out. Even though they died five years apart I was able to put them together with a nice marker. We got the younger one when the older one was seven, thinking she could help train the puppy before she died of her dysplasia issues. The pup absolutely rejuvenated her and she lived another 7 years!! The pup became a 100 pound sweetheart, best critter I've ever known, fantastic friend and guardian. It's been six years and I still get tears in my eyes when I think of her. You know this is going to happen when you get a puppy since their life spans are so much shorter than ours, but it doesn't make it any easier when they pass. Both my dogs just loved helping me work on the bikes, too! I always got a kick out of that.

I hope you can take comfort like I do in knowing that you gave your pals a wonderful life and loved them deeply.

Missing my Aussie Cattle Dog Daisy right now. Had to have her put down when lymphoma was killing her. We were all the way in Colorado at the time, so didn't get to be with her at the end.

Still causes my eyes to leak...

Your pupsters are in a good place...

It is really very hard to go through such situation. I lost my two buddied Lab and Rotw. It is really helpless to see them going from playful era to helpess moments. I was helpless after knowing they are ill and we can't save them. They become our family and their loss can't be fullfilled by anything in this world.

Earlier I use to think getting an another breed or pet would solve the problem of loss, but it becomes more stronger than what it had left. We get more to deal with. Now I have only one GSD. After this I won't get a single pet. Because now only I am restless thinking of their lifespan. As dogs grows 7 times faster than humans. And their average life is from 8-17 yrs. Counting the remaining years left to go is really a nightmare. Really we can't afford a loss they are our family.

    R.I.P to Kodie and Gunner.

We have had an unusually wonderful spring here this year with Mother Nature giving us more sunshine than snow! We hop back on to our noble steeds and ride down stream toward the reservoir.

There were signs of new life all around us. This lil hopper tried to get away but I still got his picture before he could escape.

I zoomed past this one and thought it might have been a rattler so I stopped and turned around to investigate.

Upon closer inspection I found it be a harmless bull snake minding his own business catching some rays warming up on the road.

We left the warm valley taking off south for the high roads going up to Pine Mt. We had been watching the thunder heads build up in the sky and were hoping that there would be a calm clearing between the storms. It was a fun ride up to the summit leaving the sagebrush below and entering in the tall cool ponderosa forest.

:dog The sky started to look angry and storm cells were surrounding us. :dog

"Finish your sandwich we have to get out here!" I decided I had better hurry up if I didn't want to be struck by lightning. :yikes Since we do have two more pups at home who are alive and well they would be very upset if we couldn't be there for them anymore its time to go home! Down the mountain we went dodging big fat raindrops and even changed our planned route to pavement to avoid more storms.
All in all our mission was accomplished and it was a great days ride!

:clap Eternal peace be with you both Gunner and Kodie! :clap

It's pretty easy to feel this way.
The love they create, creates supreme sadness when they leave us.
But I don't believe that it's about US....

Our first two (gone now) were Golden Retreivers.
They are still with us on our property, just a few feet under.
We are quite certain that they would want us to,....
    ....no,....
...we are quite certain that they would DEMAND that we get more dogs, ALWAYS.

We still hear them say (bark?)...
"Quit yer mopin' 'bout us,....and get more dogs, there's a party to be had :clap"

It was their JOB and DUTY in life to MAKE us have fun.
They absolutely NEEDED to provide this fun for us, for as long as WE may live.
...And only more dogs can continue to provide for that need they had.
And we owe it to them for the pure fun and happiness that they gave us.

We have two more Goldens now, about age 5. They LOVE parties :norton
    "Dualin Hooligans" :D

Free Fun, they are, free fun :nod

You are lucky to have had the bond of complete and unwavering faithful devotion and friendship. I am not sure it is possible for humans to give and the same level.

My best buddy has been gone for more than 20 years and i still miss him. No real replacement since.

Can you please post the pics of those two puppies?? And what are their names.

Now you have to be strong to be with this pups. Animals do sense the emotions of their owner and react the same. As they are small and loving you have to be little strong for them so they keep happy and keep playing....

Nope, this one is just for the old boys, the younger ones can be seen in other threads and there will surely be more stories to come for them.
