BH, let us know what dates are you going to Cabo. I remember you have a place in San Jose?

We plan to ride down on big bikes starting on the Nov. 18th to spend Thanksgiving weekend at the tip. Head home on the 25th-26th.

I second the pay parking lots right at the border. They are pretty secure. There's one at the top of the hill that we use that works out perfect.

Greetings all, Not 100% sure this is the right place for the question, but does anyone know if Playa Buenaventura (campground/bar) at Bahia Concepcion is still standing? I have a Mexico/Baja trip coming up next month, had planned to stay there on the way back north, but recently heard it might have been destroyed in one of the last storms to hit Baja. Any info would be appreciated. Their Facebook page is dormant since August. Thanks!

    HEADS UP!

If you plan on riding through Northern Baja over the next few weeks, do so carefully. There are already lots of SCORE Baja 1000 pre-runners down there. Also this is the start of the local racing season. Our group did a big go around after running into a local race out of San Vincente last weekend.

You never know what you're going to find in the wilds of Baja

    secret geocache (thanks @GalacticGS )

an aimless horse that seems to think it's a Prius driver and won't let you pass
    [IMG]

a HUGE steer bent on protecting his own endless supply of tomatoes
    [IMG]

But the best is a Martini Bar at Mike's and an amazing bartender
    [IMG]

all the martinis still couldn't make this look good when I wanted to go to bed though
    [IMG]

    Only in BAJA :ricky

And now, the rest of the story

@dzrtracin @Yellow Pig @ToddLite @El Zorrillo and myself went down for a quick 3 day big bike tour; 4 Super Enduros and a 950 Adv. Rolled across the border at Tecate at leisurely 9:30 with Coyote Cal's as the day's objective. After a quick roll through town and some slick dirt roads, everyone pulls up at our regular gathering spot before we let it loose.

    Todd Lite and Dan
    [IMG]

    Shawn and Tom
    [IMG]

The wind was light and the dust was pretty heavy on Compadre Trail so everyone kept pretty well paced apart until we ran up on TL who has a flat.

Quick work of fixing the flat and we were flying towards Ojos Negros. For the 3rd time in the last 3 trips, our favorite taco shop is closed. The Tia's take good care of us here though.

Bodies all fueled up and heading south, we have our first mission. A few weeks earlier, @GalacticGS had planted some geocache prizes for us to find. This took us on a slight detour on to a section of the Baja 1000 course, and not an easy section as Tom's taillight will show. TL and I find the geocache spot as the boys take advantage of the less whooped and rocky sections.

Has anyone ever tried Tequila that has been sitting under a pile of rocks in the middle of the desert at over 90 degrees? Shawn didn't care.

Back on our tracks and through Tres Hermanos and over to Uripan. Shortly after we had our run in with the Prius horse, TL has another flat.

Even though the valve stem is completely ripped out, Dan is determined to find the leak ... ??? ... um, valve stem ripped out
    [IMG]

At least this flat repair site offered some shade
    [IMG]

While sitting in the shade watching TL change a tube, Shawn looked over his own tire and found this little treat.

Quick gas and cold beer stop in Santo Tomas and heading for the coast. Was able to get ahead a little bit and stop at a good picture spot. Second thought was should have told the guys, probably would have been better pics.
    Dan
    [IMG]

    Tom
    [IMG]

    Shawn
    [IMG]

Shawn and Todd Lite ... enjoying the 20 degree drop in temps.

A new south swell had lots of guys in the water at the usual spots
    [IMG]

    Shawn getting the good lighting
    [IMG]

As always, a great dinner and rather quiet evening with the crew at Cal's. Tomas is quick with the beer, Ta does a great curry chicken and Rick keeping us up to date with Erendira news.

Off to another leisurely start from Cal's
    [IMG]

Plan was to spend half the day on the coast and lots of beach time. Dan getting some sand roost.

What wasn't worked into our plan was a local race coming out of San Vincente along the coast.

Now we are backtracking for a workaround and back out the coast. Newly nicknamed "Bushwhacking Bartalucci" led us on an interesting run based on his really awesome Baja Maps. The maps don't say the road hasn't been used in 40 years.

We eventually made back out to the coast do a deep marine layer and fog ... goggles were now a hindrance. Can still make out the "shipwreck" though.

Headed back inland for our run up to Mike's Sky Ranch. "Bushwacking Bartalucci" used his well honed language skills and Army training on how to work with villagers to get us past a gate I've been turned around at the last 2 trips. We soon discovered the tomato eating steer and the need to get to some hill tops to find a way around a new fence across the road.

Quick stop at Melling Ranch for a beer and rinse with the hose (temps were in the 90s again) and we are heading up Coyote Ranch Rd for Mike's. This trail keeps getting worse and worse. I came out of a tight uphill switchback on the wrong side of the trail and soon found the big 950 upside down, fuck me. After getting my shit together, TL radios that a jeep caravan is coming down, so I get in some shade and wait it out. Finally link up with the boys who also found some shade.

It's also time to find another one of @GalacticGS 's geocache prizes and wouldn't you know, Tom gets a flat at almost the exact spot.

While Tom's busy with his tire, TL and Dan find the prize, Don Julio!!!!

Upon arriving at Mike's, we discover the 34th annual Padres y Hios Tornea Pesca. Turns out the stream below Mike's is full of trout and several families have been coming down to fish. Needless to say they invited the Gringos to join in the fun
    [IMG]

Their group was so big we were relegated to the patio for dinner. Worked out great!

I got to meet Mexican Batman
    [IMG]

In the big room, the party was really starting to take off
    [IMG]

In the bar, we were past take off
    [IMG]

No one knows how many tequilas Shawn had, by his looks, maybe only a couple
    [IMG]

    THANKS FOR THE SHIRTS TOM!!!

Surprisingly we were able to get rolling early on Sunday morning with no issues ... until Shawn's bike died. Fuel pump failed and of course TL had a spare under his seat. Up and rolling again until that pump died. Tom and I rode ahead to Valle T and arranged for a truck to get Shawn back to Tecate. As I went back to let them know, they came rolling into town. Shawn had rigged a gravity feed line. In Valle T Shawn picked up a generic car fuel pump and we all went to work.

With Shawn's fuel pressure now about 6 times higher than stock, his Super Enduro now could hit 200 mph (in his mind). The fix held up and we bombed up Compadre and across the border.

Another great Baja trip! When's the next one?

Depends on rider skill more than the bike.
