Is anyone running the Squadron lights from Baja Designs? They look impressive and they have a BMW 1200GS mounting kit available.

I just got off the phone with Trent one of their tech guys. He sent me this picture of the lights on a 1200GS. I'd probably have to cobble up the mount somehow to get it to work on my 1200-Adventure. Baja Designs also offers a crash bar mount kit for the 1200's that would work right out of the box on my bike but it would put the light lower.

I was down in Baja in May watching the Mexican 1000. Baja Designs lights have an excellent rep with the race crowd. That speaks volumes of cred in my world when it comes to durability.

Very very bright. I like mine a lot. Dimmer recommended.

Dimmer? Why? Brighter at night is always best.

These lights are so BRIGHT that without a dimmer you can not run them on the road if their is any traffic around.....I was getting flashed at sunset with mine on in Baja. They are sick bright, I couldnt out run the light at night and was running 100+

Also, mount them off your crash bar. The location pictured doesn't give you triangulation, and will wash out your turn signals. Lower, and with a dimmer, will make them much more effective.

I don't have these, what I do have is the ADVMonster lights (M64's) mounted on the crash bars. -IF and when- the lights I have now go belly up; The next set I'll get is going to be the Squandrons. They are smaller and should be brighter. That's a plus - plus for me. And I'll go with the spots again.

Because mine are spots (for those fuzzy bastards), the aiming is right at an oncoming drivers level at about 250' out. Even at a 10% output at night - I get flashed.

Running them at 10% in the daytime is just for being noticed. That works. At night people seem to be a little more sensitive about LED's that are spots and aimed directly at them. That's being polite. I'm glad they don't carry a rope. Still experimenting with the aiming part.

I'm not in the market for DRL's. I'm looking for something that will melt Bambi's eyes. I don't run accessory lights in traffic. Ultra bright night ride lights are what I'm after.

I have them mounted above the stock adv aux lights.
They are amazingly bright and I love having them on the street (dimmed) and full power when nobody is around.
They truly turn night into day and have a mixed pattern (2 spot/2 flood) available which is what I got.

Trent at Baja Designs sent me a few more images of the Squadron's mounted on a R1200GS. After looking at these photos I don't think the mounting kit that mounts the lights above the turn signal will work on the Adventure model. It looks like the chubby windscreen on the Adventure will have a space conflict with the light. The crash bar mounted kit looks to be the ticket for the R1200GS-Adventure.

Do you have any pictures of the Squadrons mounted on the crash bar? If you do would you be willing to share them?

Great pictures, thanks. It looks like the mounts that come with the kit work great. Do you think the lights are high enough above the stock dim-lights.

I'm impressed with the bug count. I think you need to ride in the rain more to wash some of em off. :evil

ahh summertime :) not much rain in CA this year but it is my go-to rain bike

The brackets don't come with but they sell them for about $50. I think they are Hella. I did find them for a few bucks less elsewhere but this was easier. My bars are a bit tweaked and I put a strip of emery cloth under the clamps to hold them from rotating. 15k miles and haven't budged.

I think they give a great visual profile when on and haven't been cut off since installing them.

Got mine from Jaxon at WildCardCustoms <jaxon@wildcardcustoms.com>
He went out of his way to make sure I was happy with them and spent a lot of time explaining everything to me.

This will be my first "extra" thing added to the new bike! I just looked over the various options and like that you have the flood, spot, driving, and lenses too. Nice stuff.

I would like to melt Bambi's eyes as well as having the dimmer option. Tell me about dimmers (who makes and where to get) are easiest to fit into the wiring scheme and what kind of wiring solutions are you using? The Baja Design products are killer but I have been hesitant because of the fear of accidental meltage of human eyes and a general hesitance to mess with wiring on my 06 GS.

Baja has a dimmer box. It mounts very easily and I tapped into my high beam to trigger full bright.

It's a wireless which at first bugged me but now it's cool. I set my dim level and put the remote away with my tools. Dim normal, full on high beams.

Clearwater has a nice adjustable dimmer but its out in the elements. My friend has it and I was at first jealous but it has died on him 2x. To be fair, mine died one time. Both vendors have new, improved models now.

I mounted mine with dual lock on the GSA tank lobe, left side. It's completely out of view.

Oh, it came with a relay but since I've got my lights wired to a TT canbus helper that has a relay already, I cut that part out of the harness.
