Not a lot really, but enough of this to make us sure we're back in Oregon (and on behalf of all current Oregon residents, yes it really does look like that all the time all over the state - definitely don't think of moving here)

Lunch stop in Coos Bay - I'm not saying Laura likes tea and miso, and generally getting a chance to warm up...but....

    and then:

Lincoln City for the night and what's probably our last road dinner for awhile. We went across the street to the only restaurant a reasonable walk from our hotel, which happened to be a bit more upscale than our usual. We figured what the hell - but even with my two $10 drinks (Portland bourbon, lime and some sort of monkey flavor...yummmm)....

    and this:
    IMG_8278.jpg
we only managed to bring the bill to $57. I guess we're sort of cheap dates.

There's a winter weather advisory for Olympia tonight - mainly frozen slush on the roads, so we'll sleep in a little and ride slow to give it time to melt...

    end mileage:

Tim and the boys are looking rough. That's the rock and roll lifestyle , I guess. My brother and I drove from Tyler, TX to Memphis in 1995 just to see them play.

I don't think I've ever seen them live (though i went to a lot of shows in the mid 90s so maybe...). How was the show?

Saw them open for Beastie Boys in Atlanta in '98 - fantastic! Would have really liked to see them headlining a smaller club.

They opened for The Offspring at the New Daisy Theater. Great show from what I remember. I got the date wrong it was 1994. The Bosstones played the next night at the same club. Helluva weekend. I hope I am as cool as my parents were, to let two high school kids skip school and take the family car 400 miles away to go see rock and roll shows, when my boy is that age.

Full circles, half circles, triangles, whatever. Everything in life is a matter of perspective. Greiffster and Mrs. Greiffster got to be a really small part of a "trip of a lifetime".

    It's beautiful!

Guy at the gas station here in Astoria said, it's a bit cold for a ride today...

A lot warmer than it could be - and dry!

I met a squad of riders just north of Astoria a few years ago out for a Sunday ride in a considerable drizzle. I was on way to Victoria and had to be on the road but I asked them why they were - the reply "If you don't ride in the rain in Washington you don't ride . . .

Right? Laura's boss, as a thank you for quitting (! ? :rofl probably better hope she doesn't see this!) gave her several hundred dollars in "Choice Hotels" gift cards with a very short but apt note: "Sometimes there's nothing you need more than two queens and some cartoons." We found that the pet policies vary so wildly from brand to brand within the Choice group and also within each brand from hotel to hotel, we were just too lazy to use them ... until the last week; so we've been staying a bit more upscale than our usual Motel 6s on some recent nights. Honestly, I think most of the La Quinta's we've stayed at (our go-to spoiling ourselves lodging) have been as nice (and with NO pet fees), but the Quality Inn in Page, AZ (run by the Navajo tribe - and the only one we've found with no pet fee) and the Comfort Inn in Lincoln City (with the parking under the hotel as pictured) were both pretty nice. And after a rainy ride it was really nice to have a dry place to park so we could leave the trailer windows and sidecar open to air out and dry off a bit.

I don't think anyone who has taken the time to post in this thread qualifies as only a small part - and certainly not the family Greiff.

We came sooooo close to buying a couple of these back in 2006...but ended up getting another BMW instead. :)

I couldn't tell you how many times I've said that to people :) must be my Washingtonian-ness coming out. ;)

I have a whole pile of failed selfies for this spot (if you've ever tried to get two adults, a frenzied with excitement nearly not eight anymore year old, two ill behaved dogs AND an OCEAN into one picture, you probably understand) - instead you get a pic a nice lady offered to take for us. If you look closely at my face, you can see that I'm saying something to Laura; if you look closely at her face you can probably guess what I said was, "Your boots are about to get really wet."

I was trying to figure it out this morning, and I'm pretty sure the span between when we flew from Texas to WA for my grandmother's birthday and this morning is the longest I've gone without seeing the Pacific - I was pleased to find it waiting.

At a lunch (lunch being hot drinks, a huge brownie and two huge cookies) stop in Astoria, cleaning receipts out of my pocket, I noticed another coincidence from yesterday:
    IMG_3454.jpg

that's exactly the same amount of gas at consecutive fill-ups - I guess you can at least say we're consistent. Sometimes.

Coming up the coast meant we got to cross one of the coolest bridges in the northwest (and, according to wikipedia, the longest continuous truss bridge in the US) - often times it's so foggy you can't see one side from the other, or even either side from the middle, and sometimes it's so windy you're sure you're going to die (or at least get really wet and cold) before you get from one side to the other, but today it was clear and calm.

    IMG_3474.jpg

Just as the sun was setting, we rolled back down and into the driveway we rolled the completed rig up and out of for the first time back in October of 2016. I don't know how long we're going to be "here" and I can honestly say, as usual, we don't have any idea what we are going to do tomorrow. We do have some things we want to do, and on my list is cleaning up some posts here and adding some posts with info on our trip stats and our packing list (maybe a video of all the crap we've stuff in the rig and where exactly we've stuffed it even) and stuff like that...so maybe I'll get to that tomorrow. Maybe.

In the meantime, I don't think this is over and I don't know where we're "going" but I do know that no matter what else we've had an amazing time, met some incredible folks and seen some fantastic things. Before my brain gets too heady (see what I did there?) in its inevitable process of analysis, I'm going to take a cue from Homer Simpson, albeit with a northwest twist, and go back to killing it with - celebratory - alcohol.

I'm sure there will be more to follow. I'll be prowling around the south and southwest in the spring ending up in Telluride for the Bluegrass festival and I look forward to bumping into many of these folks along the way and maybe you as well if you get restless.

At the risk of sounding cliche and corny, i present the card that was given to us when we left our jobs and set off on a search for something new in life by way of VW bus...seems appropriate -
    image.jpg
Our quest for something at the end of a tunnel turned out not at all what we set out for but the journey steered us to other things which steered us eventually to where we are now which ends up being one of the best things that happened to us.

Thank goodness you didnt find some bakery west of us and we never met!

In the meantime, we will continue a "quest" for you every time we see/hear of a bakery for sale. (Or at least that will be our little "game" that we will play between Lisa and I. Will be a good excuse for travel also...)

We will be making good on that return sofa to sleep on someday, wherever you end up.

Looking forward to more adventures and searching!
