Nice day for a picnic.
looks like Craggy Gardens?
Yep...didya see that the gate is still closed heading down your way? Has it been closed all Spring?
it was closed a couple of weeks ago... not sure why.
Dropped down on NC80 after climbing up 151.
Turkeys in the Straw?
kennyanc hosted a great bbq last night, took the 4 lane up yesterday and the scenic route home today.
Huh...might be storm damage? There were a lot of trees down on Curtis Creek last week that looked to have been recently cleared.
the other/north side of Curtis Creek was closed too: storm-damage
Good stuff as usual and good to see you again!!!
Curtis Creek... why does that sound familiar?
I had a great time at Kenny's! Great people, great food, great weather too!
I think there's more than one but this one runs between Old Fort and the BRP.
The 'other side' isn't even listed in google maps anymore...see link above. :huh
Actually it is... but not on the correct spot
Actually the road that they show closer to Mt Mitchell is there and connects to the one that once went straight across.
I always thought that is the road.... is there another one?
EDIT: nevermind - look here: nat geo map
but iirc the south toe is gated - is it?
Yep...there's two gravel roads that go down to the Toe River/Black Mtn campground from the BRP but they joined together in the middle.
Here's a government forest service map from a few years ago. 482 is Curtis Creek and the blue line is the BRP.
Ooops you got your edit in while I was looking up that map.
It may be gated now...but it's been open in the past as I've ridden them from both directions.
guess I have a reason to ride
more great photo's whats the mileage on your trusty steed now ?
