Warm and sunny yesterday....cold and rainy today. Nice day to cruise past the South Mtns on Golden Valley Rd. on the way to NC80. :ricky

There's actually a straight stretch on 80 just North of Carolina Hemlock....the remedy for that is to cross the river onto Halls Chapel and Blue Rock.

That fine sand was kind of embedded down into the chip seal surface and didn't feel slippery.....but I was careful anyway. :D

I was disappointed to find the gate to Beauty Spot Gap still closed for the season and continued down into Erwin, TN for lunch at the Hawg-n-Dawg...no pics. Next up was to see if I could find an 'alternate route' back across the mtn. into NC. :evil

I kinda rode around in a circle on my first try. :lol3

The 'white blazes' painted along the trail that crossed atop the mountain lead me to believe that was the AT and the state line.......

The road that lay ahead of me...

It wasn't in too bad of shape but didn't look like it had received any maintenance over the winter either. :ricky

You get 3 guesses who's neighborhood I'm in now. :deal

Hint: They have extremely vicious guard dogs! :lol3

Hint no. 2: They have more old barns on their street than I have in this entire thread! :huh

It sounded like there would be a sizable ADV crew meeting in Asheville at the Wedge later and I still had 2 or 3 hours to kill....

I began just aimlessly wandering back roads and quickly found myself in Weaverville where I realized that I had squandered a good opportunity to ride Big Laurel across to Hot Springs. :doh

But decided that I did still have time to blast over to HS on the 25/70 and still loop back into AVL on the 209/63. :ricky

...but I hadn't counted on waiting on another train. :lol3
