very nice! I love that part of the country. I have ridden the southern end of the brp many times, but rarely get further north than Mt Mitchell. I did the whole thing about 10 years ago. I stopped at some overlook in NC and it was so mesmerizing I could have stayed there all day...

I envy you getting to have the brp in your neighborhood.

Really pretty country back there Ken.

Every time I see a picture of you I remember you walking around at Westfest with your giant stogie and that big grin sayin' "I got the El Presidente' out tonight!" :D

    Hey there Bert! :wave

Y'know I was saving that 'ol DR to ride with y'all in WNC on Labor Day! :ddog Thanks for the invite to Cheaha though! :thumb...but I doubt I'll make it.....

A few days ago I was also planning to get that 'ol thumper up to Brown Mtn to ride some trails today.. But a friend needed some help this morning and once that was taken care of we ended up going for a street ride with the gang I call "The Old Guys from Work" :lol3

Pretty scary bunch, don't you think? :eek1

It was probably a good thing that I didn't go to Brown as it got up into the 90s and was a bit sticky even riding street.

We just cruised some local back roads...

...and took lots of convenience store breaks....what's always a nice find there is a "beer cave" aka walk-in cooler. :D

....we even met Jamie at one of those stops! :thumb

Hi Jamie...it was nice to meet you :wave ...not sure how you escaped my camera though? :scratch..nor did I think that it was still peach season...apples should be very soon.

Windmills may not be able to get me to stop and attempt a good shot but I can't resist pointing at them on the fly. :evil

Thanks for tuning into this weeks edition of 'banjo's neighborhood. :wave

    Thanks steve and Jamie! :wave

I went out for a spin today on my only day off of the holiday weekend..but it was a good one! :thumb

Somehow I took way too many pics so this may need a couple of posts. :lol3

Just rolling out of the neighborhood....

...and through the Kings Mtn parks.

There's lots of Revolutionary War history in this area and this is a cool place to check out!

...but today I'm just passing through... :ricky

For some reason I just like to go down this dead end and practice my u-turns every now and then. :dunno

The cotton crop looks pretty healthy this year...it'll look brown and dead when it's ready for harvest in about another month.

Although some white puffs can already be seen...

Same road, different day....I ride through this farmland a lot when I'm headed for the hills.

The remnants of an old mill.

Just up the street I made another house call...

I might try some post process on this one later....

We had perfect weather all three days of Labor Day weekend here in the Western Carolinas....I hope you did too.

Same old, same old...my shortcut to the Parkway.....

The highest point in North America East of the Mississippi looks a little different without all the cloud cover from page one of this thread....same spot, different day.

It was a holiday...so I joined the parade!

Traffic had not been an issue until I decided to climb the mtn....

You can hike to the actual summit and there's an observation platform up there...but I didn't bother today as even the parking lot was quite busy.

I think it was beetles that killed a lot of trees.

Heading South on the Parkway. :ricky

When stuck in traffic.....ride around shutter happy! :lol3

Well I dropped back off the Parkway at my first chance and did my best to avoid Asheville and it's traffic. Next thing I know I find myself in Hot Springs with a clean traffic free run down 209! :ricky :clap

:deal Then I found myself at a crossroads. :lobby

    Next up.....Hurricane damage! :uhoh

Thank you for sharing this so-not-stooopid day trip pic thread. Your pics are beyond words and make me salivate like a Pavlovian pup. I'd love to see what you get to see, ride where you ride someday.

Yeah....I've been up and down Hurricane Creek numerous times on my old dual sport...but never on the little piggy.

    Until now, that is! :evil

It starts out easy enough. :dunno

...just a scenic ride in the country...

    ...a little bumpy, perhaps...

It's hard to tell for all the trees but if you mess up to the left here.....it's about 100ft down to the creek! :eek1

I wouldn't even think about it on the DR...but decided that I'd better have a closer look at my lines for this bike! :lol3

The mossy old stone wall is kinda cool. :thumb

It was a bit muddier than I expected it to be as it's been kinda dry lately....

....the lack of recent rain was evident in the shallow water crossings though. :knary

I knew that trouble out here could be bad :uhoh but I was cruising right along and having a ball anyway! :ricky

That expression says fun! fun! fun! :rofl

Then suddenly with out warning, over nothing too rough :dunno the pogo sticks timing was just off enough to catch a good one!! :baldy

Yeah....I went to school on the short bus! Gotta problem with that?!? :mulie

Well....the only damage appeared to be to the skid plate itself, so I guess it did it's job! :thumb

I aint out of the woods yet though.. :patch

I wasn't completely alone up there though :nah I ran across these campers packing it in after the long weekend.

...and when you get to the cabins.....

...you know that I-40 is just below. :deal

    Well....the day aint over yet.......

Although there was still plenty of daylight I knew that I'd be getting home after dark so I short cut my way down I-40 to Canton with the intention of climbing back up to the Parkway.

They were having some sort of carnival there...

...but I just rolled right on by. :ricky

It wasn't too far down the road that I felt a familiar squishiness in the rear tire! :baldy

    What are the odds? :rolleyes

Thankfully I still had everything I needed to plug it and keep rolling. :thumb

NC 215 is also an old favorite for both twisties and scenery.

I really should have taken the time to rotate and crop this one...maybe later. :lol3

Back up on the Blue Ridge Parkway....this is called "Devil's Courthouse"

    Shadow's a gettin' long....gotta go! :ricky

    ...same rock, different overlook...

I had another NO traffic clean run down 276 !! :ricky That's 3 in a row baby!! totally makes up for the skidplate and flat tire!

    Looking Glass Falls

And I'll close with a couple of "corny" sunset pics as I managed to get off the mountain just before dark. :wave

:deal Look what followed me home!! Can I keep it?!? :D

Watch out Chuck!! :evil You've got competition now!! :poser

    ...as bendy would say....Bring It!

November? :dunno unpredictable, but usually still warm enough for some great riding :thumb (and the over-rated roads aren't as busy)
In fact we may still have some fall color in early Nov.

Nice! Looks like fun. KayaKTM and I were out at Hurricane et al on Sunday. Lucky was Stromming over Mt Mitchell and 209 on Sunday as well.

That's an odd shaped bit of metal to pull out of a tire.

How about that for a tire flattener? :huh Could have run over that hundreds of thousands of times and not had it do anything! :ddog

btw....rough and rusty old CT70 has spark but the carb is in real bad shape. I'm not sure if the original owner will be able to dig up the title or not anyway......but free is a good start for any money pit. :lol3
