Thanks for sharing the ride and the pics. I saw a few familiar places and new to me places I would like to ride. I have to get out to WNC more this fall.

Maybe some oil in the forks would have prevented that?

Great pics:thumb You're lucky to live near such great scenery and riding. I've been up in that area my last few vacations, and will be again in early October. Your pics have me drooling in anticipation.....I better back up so I don't short out my laptop:lol3

    :rofl

Yeah, it's a wonder that I didn't do something like that out West when my forks were completely blown out!

I actually had Rick @ Cogent Dynamics rebuild my forks for me after that trip and they feel better than ever! :thumb

This was my punishment for getting over confident and trying to pick up the pace a little. :shog

Wee Little Piggy don't like to go fast over rocks! :nono

klaviator....aren't you in GA? I like the scenery in those hills too. :nod

Great pics! Stayed at the IronHorse Lodge over Labor Day weekend and had a killer time. Great area to ride. Since I only took one picture all weekend I will subscribe here and pretend :lol3

I was just flipping through the latest Cycle News (and one of the last :cry ) and there's one of these in the classifieds with an asking price of $4400 :eek1 .

    Holy Cow!! :knary

Well I did get my rusty old beater to run last night! :thumb

Fuel flow looks a bit slow (need to re-clean integrated petcock/bowl) that combined with a header pipe that is completely rusted out and no air filter meant it would only run on full choke. When I have more time to tinker I'll try to restrict the in & out air flow and increase fuel flow and see just what I've got then.

All your photos are top notch! :thumb

hehehe...that's the problem. I wore it on a shoestring around my neck on my TAT trip and the dust has just about killed it. Gotta push the cover open with my finger and the lens is dusty way inside. Time for a new one.

:deal I got that silly thing running! :clap First $4,400 takes it home!

I'll even let you keep the beads I put over the duct tape. :lol3

The high beam and the horn work...no low beam, tail light or brake light. Brakes work good though.

This is the worst video ever...I taped the camera to the handlebar and it vibrates like crazy. But you can hear what it sounds like and there's a cool psychedelic light show in the back yard...and there's puppies. :D Sorry, no rainbows.

I actually welded a piece of pipe to the flange and slid the old pipe into it. I didn't take any pics of that project but it seems to be working as it's much quieter and running OK.

:deal Tomorrow I hope to ride....just have to decide what bike and to where....

Well as it turns out I did get out for a little ride this afternoon on my old beat up thumper.

    The "thumper short-cut" to town.

It starts out big bike friendly...

...but going down through the creek could be tricky..not bad today though as it's dry as a bone.

I played around trying to get a good sunset shot at this cabin last winter...."on the fly" shot today.. :ricky

Awnmower racing is big in these parts. :lol3

Heading for the hills I see that some of the cotton fields are nearing harvest now.

:scratch Why is it that the "old" highway is always better than the "new" one? :evil

Once in the hills I decided to go see Sally...she's a cruel mistress with curves to die for. :raabia

The weather cooperated quite nicely this afternoon. :D

This is Sally and her pet rat....bike.

Next up I would discover the gates open on Schoolhouse Ridge. :thumb

Two track and blind curves. :ricky

    Grandfather Mountain.

Fresh cut lumber smells sooo good. :D

I had hoped to find more gates open....but didn't. :bluduh

So it was gonna have to be a trip down that same old road again....

The smooth sections were just a blur today....zoom, zoom, zoom.

This used to be an industrialized area until a flood washed out everything in the gorge....a few things still remain.

Just a quick loop today with hopes of getting home before dark. At the base of the Blue Ridge farmers are getting up the summer's last load of hay.

Now hopefully this guy won't go hungry this winter.

Well the old bike ran pretty good overall...it'd been sitting up with old gas in it. It didn't leave me stranded anywhere along that little 230 mile spin :thumb but the clutch cable did snap just ten miles from home. :dunno

Tomorrow I go to work. :whip

You were out there. Another friend was checking out his new to him KLX at Brown yesterday afternoon. I was on my orange two-stroke. A Stihl line trimmer.

I figured that you were still in school when I was topping off at the Gate....

I was tempted to hit a few trails at brown but glad that I didn't have a clutch cable break somewhere on 1A :knary

OK...managed to get a little ride in this morning before work, over to the nearest m/c shop to see if they could re-cable my DR650 clutch and dig up any 6v bulbs for the ct70.

Crappy cell phone pics but it's an interesting place to poke around looking for an odd piece of hardware.

I hope nobody tries to take any parts off my Strom while it's sitting there. :uhoh
    [IMG]

    Cool sign. :thumb
    [IMG]

Inside it's about as organized as I am! :lol3..but they knew right where to look in a box as old and dusty as my ct70 is rusty to find those 6v bulbs!

Would I just be showing myself to be old if I told you that I lusted for this bike after graduating HS?

I'm afraid that most of the "goody" is already gone from this one! :dunno
    [IMG]

I've actually found a usable part or two back here in the woods from days gone by....

:scratch Does that look like a Russel Day Long to you? (maybe I should go back for that!)

btw...it looks like he will be upgrading my Strom's rear shock this winter. :D

Hey KNY, I just stumbled (I do that a lot) across this thread and want to say what a great job you've done. I head for that area often. I know that the Colorado tangent have all those great high mountain rides, but me being primarily a pavement rider, I insist we have some of the best riding roads in the world! Thanks for all the cool pics and commentary.:clap
