Then went out into the woods and watched the old trials bikes play around for a bit....
Hard to contain the excitement sometimes.
Bumped into @norton73 and his better half again too.
Went back to the paddocks again before posting up to watch the big boys race for money....more crazy hack thingies.
Only managed to catch the 3rd place victory lap wheelie on film though...
Then it got pounded into my head that it wasn't just going to be rain.....this was a hurricane that was set to hit the track directly, although it would be down graded to a TS by then it would still be too much for my tent so we all packed up and went home.
The real danger for me didn't turn out to be weather but a right front tire that decided to turn into an egg.
Glad I was able to get that sucker changed before it came apart completely!!
Then last weekend there was a group of the ol DOGs (dual sporters of georgia) getting together at TWoS on Saturday night so I took Sunday off to ride over there and camp out. Did some stuff around the house Friday then decided to take the KTM out for a lunch run and try to grab one of the tagorama games that wasn't too far away.
What I ended up getting was a performance award.
But I did get the TAG too.
gratuitous old house pic
Since I didn't need to be getting any more awards and the Srom still needs servicing from being out West....the little Sporty got saddled up for the run to Suches.
If anybody is looking for a project?
That's not too much for an old rat is it?
It was pretty much overcast all the way to the Georgia border that day but it was nice and sunny by the time I got to Warwoman Rd.
I'm going to need a new mailbox post sooner than later.....but I don't have any old washing machines.....
There was just a little bit of color going over Wolf Pen Gap
Some of the crew....
Had a good time that evening but then had to pack up and aim for home after breakfast....it was kinda cloudy for the good part of the day Sunday but the temps weren't too bad.
Not much color over that way yet.....
OK....all caught up.
Uniroyal tires do that ..
My old '74 Suburban ..
Had 3 tires do that egg thingy..
Neven used Uniroyal's ever again after that..
Saw a VW van on e-bay last night looks to be about the same year as that one, it was restored but also 145K.
Booo hiss on that performance award! No reason for that action. Thanks for all the pictures..I nuked my phone this week and lost all pics from Barber, Notta, etc etc. Be safe brother.
I feel like I really should be in Telico Plains at the Old's Cool Fall campout right now but (warning: brief old man whine to follow) geez...I feel like I've been out on the road since June and all my days off at home in between trips have been spent prepping for the next trip....and I camped out and took days off unpaid each of the last 3 weekends in a row. Just couldn't get motivated to sleep in a tent again this weekend.
But it ended up turning out to be too nice of a day today to not go for a ride anyway...but I'm safely back at home and can sleep in my own bed and not have to wake up to the sound of the alarm clock tomorrow.
Since it had been pretty chilly down here in the flatlands the past three nights I though there might be some good color up around Grandfather Mtn. so late this morning after it had wormed up I hopped on the KTM and headed for the Wilson Creek Gorge area.
I didn't expect much color down low and didn't take many pics but the route went something like this: Playmore Beach to Maple Sally to Schoolhouse Ridge then down through Edgemont and up Old House Gap.
A quick break at the top to pee and regain feeling in my hands....
...it was there that I realized my carry along extra oil bottle in the top box was empty....and that I should probably add a little bit before too long...so I detoured over to an auto parts place in Newland.
There were a few splashes of color as I climbed up to 221....
Still lots of green though...
This '78 Z50 was sitting in the Car Quest and the owner was asking $750 obo.....just in case that may interest you.
