Bart, Bart Bart....That cornerman fiasco would never happen with Harley riders, they never wave anyone on.

We never had anyone getting lost on HB adventure rides when there was a 690 in the group! (well cept for Mark S that one time at Parongahau, oh and that time XR Johnny lead half the riders on a wild goose chase out the back of Wairoa, then there was the time......)

And this is Pic's of the Day - gravelling it with one hand in the air /on the mirror? - magic!

    So no RRRR 2015?

I think part of the issue is the dearth of organised ride recently.
Route sheets / GPS tracks can take a lot of organising / pre riding. The cornerman system is easier for most rides, once everyone understands how it works.

I'm with you on that one. Just look for the big guy with the yellow Hi viz vest on, there was only one, and he's the TEC. Not that hard. The ride the previous mouth ran sweet as with a similar number of riders. Who can be arsed writing up route sheets every month? Not me that's for sure!

Bart I'm sure it was you lamenting the fact that there aren't that many organised rides these days. I wonder why that Is?

    It's Gr82briding!

I was chasing after a DR that turned right instead of left to redirect him - then another DR followed me in support :D. But that was an awesome ride in spite of how it started :thumb

The worst planning = the best adventure! or something like that :lol3

Perfect conditions really. It looked like it was going to rain towards the coast, but other than a few spits, held off.

I've kind of done that view to death. I recall getting a good photo of you in that same spot.
Yeah, this is a cool photo. I was trying to keep with him all day, but the poor DR just couldn't keep up. Fried my front brake. It was shit anyway, but by the end of the day it was down right dangerous. Pulled it to bits yesterday and the caliper piston seals are shot.

There may be a 2015 RRRR. If so it'll be limited numbers. The one where we did the coastal stations turned into a real mess. About 30 something bikes. We lost a couple of riders. Chased a horse miles down the back of the station, which the owner was NOT happy about. That station has now changed hands, so I may almost be allowed back on the property.
I was mentioning that because there aren't many organised rides these days, the turn out is larger. If there were more rides on it would dilute the pool a little.

OK, I know it was a couple of weeks ago now. Life is seriously getting in the way of fun at the moment.

Alastair had bought Wades KLR and was coming along to the Cold Kiwi. The plan was to meet at my place, then catch up with Box-a-bits in Asshurst (I think it has 2 h's but s's look better). I decided to go against my usual standard of leaving everything to the last minute, and get organised early for a change. I found the knoblyest back tyre I could in the back shed and fitted it the weekend before. Once fitted, I put the bike on the lift thingy, where it stayed for the week.

Saturday morning arrived and I loaded the bike up. I was all set. I only needed to throw my jacket and boots on once Alastair arrived and I was away. As I heard him coming down the road, I dropped the bike off the stand, and you guessed it. The back tyre was as flat as a turd.:huh Pinched the tube. I had to take most of the gear off the bike to get to my tools. Some swear words were said. My spare tube was fitted.

We hit the road a little late. Met in Asshurst, had coffee, and managed to get lost following Steve's GPS (well not exactly lost, just ending up not quite where we were planning).

Somewhere near Taihape, Steve thought it'd be a good idea to check out a paper road. I'm buggered if I know where we were but I'm always up for a little stupidity.

I'm glad I put on the knoblyest tyre in the back shed

Yep, I think it's this way

It started looking a whole lot less like a road and a whole lot more like a farm track. Either this paper road was written on a very thin bit of paper, or Steve's GPS had let us down again.

We ended up on a high ridge. The easiest way down happened to go through a paddock of lambing ewes. We stumbled across this cast ewe with fresh triplets. Steve thought he'd do the decent thing and help her out.

The old girl pissed off down the gully. This little fella thought Steve was Mum and started following his bike down the track. A bit small for a sheep skin seat cover.

I took my glove off (stupid), picked him up, and took him back to his mates. Awesome. A hand full of afterbirth for the remainder of the day.

Mum was bleating down the gully so we got the hell out of it. All would be well.

Very slippy but luckily no carnage. We got the hell out of there before some pissed off farmer turned up with a shotgun. Into Taihape for a burger (the first of many for the weekend) and a thorough wash of the hands...not quite in that order.

Next year I will resurrect the WWWWW ride that Zukin (RIP) organised back in 2007.

Here is the link to the details, unfortunately there will be for less gravel than back then.

We main roaded it to the rally site, found some other adventurers, and pitched tents. A few well earned beers around the camp fire.

Had the best sleep in ages. Idiots were out early. Always entertaining.

Photobucket just broke. I'll carry on tomorrow night.

    awesome photo

Feck that was a while ago - my first organized adv ride.
That was the one that was too wet for Bart to go on wasn't it?

I had no clue where we were 90% of the time and would have been totally buggered if I'd lost sight of the group.

I wore those horrendous warehouse waterproofs that felt like being in a plastic sauna and made you look up the duff.

I'd be a starter for a rerun just for old times sake - we could hoist a glass or 2 for Zukin

Nice work Bart, thought I recognised that KLR from somewhere. The WWWWW looks enticing :D

It was my first ride also, yes a glass or two for Scott would be most appropriate. It will happen!

Come on Bart. It's tommorrow night already. You know it's cruel to make us wait like this... :brow
