I am pretty novice when it comes to base camp. I have read through a lot of threads, google searches etc. I am sure I have already read what I need to know, but maybe I did not comprehend it well enough, or I am over saturated, or I am just a moron :)

Here is where I am at with my route:
    upload_2017-6-19_13-53-34.png

I have created the route using mymaps in Google Maps, and exported to base camp. What I can't figure out now, is how to add direction. How does base camp know what the order is for the points I have set? Any help you can give me to translate these points I have imported into turn by turn directions, would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

My only thing I am messing with now is clicking on the routes and inverting them based on the direction they are showing.

Edit: I think that solved the issue with directions. Theoretically, once I sink the device with my basecamp, I should now be able to pull up this route correct?

Is the route in BaseCamp or on your device? Are you trying to "pull up" the route in BaseCamp or on your device? What device do you have?

    Sorry, more information:

I have the BMW Navigator 5
I built the map in Google Maps/ MyMaps
Exported and saved the map to Basecamp
Currently the map is saved in "MY Collection"
I am able to connect the GPS to the computer and send from my collection to my device, but once I complete that task, I can't find a way to pull it up in the GPS Unit. Would it show in custom route or my tracks? Do I need to make it an adventure? Sorry thats where I am at though.

Ok, now you need to import it on the device. Not certain of the commands on the NavV, but pretty sure they are the same as the Z590 which I have. Go to the Apps and select Trip Planner. This will open a list of routes available on the NavV. If the route is not listed in the screen that opens then tap the Tribar icon in the upper left, check the box of the route you want to import and tap Import.

I will play with it tonight. Do I need to do anything to convert the track to a route? I thought it required that, but when I was doing the conversions I saw it will bypass my tracks to create the fastest route instead. I will try your commands above on my device when I get home tonight. We are leaving Thursday, so I really need to devote some time to this lol.

I thought you were working with a routes not tracks. What I mentioned in the previous post was to access routes on the GPS not tracks.
To import tracks it's similar: Apps/Tracks/Import.
Note that to view tracks on the map you need to turn on the Trip Log: Settings/Map & Vehicle/Map Layers/ check box Trip Log/Save

I haven't verified your information, but as of right now, you are a garmin master and I really appreciate it. I will go home and see what I can do tonight.

When you pull up the tracks, it pulls them as individual sections in no particular order. Is there a way to convert my tracks to routes without it re routing for fastest route?

Here is what it is doing when I convert a track to a route. Rather than following my track, it finds its own straight line (shown in pink)

Well, I'm totally lost now. Your first post sure looks like routes but now you're working with tracks?
Generally, in BaseCamp, when routes are showing straight lines between via points it's because the activity profile is set to direct and not motorcycling.

+1 or the mapset does not support autorouting. I know that area fairly well and in my experience the more primitive the roads the less viable the routes generated.

I found out the hard way that the DVD-based map I bought does not support routing.

If you plug your GARMIN device into Basecamp you may be able to click on its internal map and then create your route.

yeah they are all tracks, and all in motorcycle mode.

When I looked into this on facebook I got this explanation, and I think that I am basically stuck just going from track to track:

    >>>I am trying to find a way to put the Washington back country discovery route as a turn by turn route instead of having to follow each track individually is that possible<<<

It is possible that convert it to a turn by turn route if either: 1. The roads which it uses are supported in BaseCamp for routing (not all roads are) or 2. The track has sufficient data points to support conversion. There is no way to tell for item 1, but by looking at the track data, one can tell if there are sufficient data points. Many users reduce the number of data points to reduce file size, but that sacrifices conversion effectiveness.

    >>>When I try to do the conversion to a route it makes a straight line from point a to point B<<<

This indicates that there is insufficient data points to support conversion; so we have to look to BaseCamp to do the routing. There is one setting that can cause the straight-line routing. Be sure that your activity profile is set to “DirtBiking” and then go into the route and instruct it to recalculate.

If that does not solve your problem, let me know and I’ll have you send me a copy of your file and I’ll see if I can solve the issue.

Unless you changed the default color, the light grey line is a TRACK not a ROUTE.

This PINK line is a ROUTE.

Negative, if you have a NAV 5 your maps are 100% routable. To make a route, make sure that your have City Navigator showing,
    City Nav.png

Otherwise you either connect your GPS to basecamp every time (pain the as*) or you need to load your mapset on your laptop. Download Garmin's Express, then connect your GPS to the laptop. Then you need to do this

    THanks guys.

I was able to go into it on my mac (which was very different from my work pc), changed to dirt bike and then the first half of the trip (till the idaho bdr legs) were easily converted to routes. For whatever reason It wouldnt do the idaho ones, so I will cross that bridge when we get there.

Leaving in an hour, thank you all for the help. Updates to come!

Folks in the know that use routes from tracks will often load and display both as a prcaution/crosscheck.

It's funny because after all of this, I have preferred laying the tracks over the normal map as I go. Lots of issues (snow and landslides) on the route so far though and have had to back track and re route a few times. IMG_8370.JPG
