    Hi Everyone,
Just got a new bike and went to Basecamp (which I haven't used in probably a year) on my Mac and noticed there are no longer any roads on the map. Ive loaded the newest version of Basecamp and plugged in my GPS (BMW Motorad i.e.. Garmin) hoping the roads would then show up. Only thing that shows is a bread crumb trail of my route back home from the dealer, but still no highways or roads. What gives?

On Windows there's a drop down menu for selecting the map you want to use.... Mac? I don't know.

You'll want to go to garmin.com/express to download Garmin Express for Mac. With that installed, plug in your Nav and Express will check for updated software and maps for the GPS. It also will give you the option to install a copy of the current map on your computer. I'd allow an hour or so for this, the Garmin servers are often slow and the files are big.

The other option is to plug in the GPS, and use the Maps drop-down in BaseCamp to select the GPS map, but refreshing map data over USB every time you move the map is very slow.

I would not attempt to use the old BaseCamp map on your computer as it almost certainly will not match your GPS map, leading to routing errors.

BaseCamp for Windows has a useful toolbar (View>Toolbars>Detail Level) that makes it easy to balance drawing speed with detail level. I'd expect the Mac version to have something similar.
Highest is good for seeing every road, Lowest shows only major roads but is faster for viewing large areas.

So sitting here at 0500 EST and did everything you suggested (I did this all last night as well) with still no joy. In the map selection menu the info is there but still nothing. Very frustrating, thanks for your suggestions and anyother help/thoughts would be appreciated. I have a feeling it may be incompatibility with a MAC OS update but everything is newest version.

You should have a map set to "City Navigator" and make sure your scale is zoomed in enough to see the roads (1 mile or so)

First off you should install "Garmin Express"
    https://www.garmin.com/en-US/software/express

Once this is installed plug in your BMW Nav and Garmin Express will detect it. It will probably have some updates and maybe a map update. You will be given a choice for map updates to install the maps on your device only (GPS) or on your device and your computer. Selected device and computer, or select computer only if your maps are up to date on the Nav.

Let it do its thing. Once finished you can disconnect your Nav as it is not needed for basecamp unless you are ready to send your routes to the device. In Basecamp there is a "maps" button at the top, click that and make sure you select the newest map on the list if there is more then one

    That should be it.

The other thing to check is the detail of the map, there is a floating translucent box at the bottom, when your mouse goes over it it darkens. Make sure detail is set high enough

This is strange. My first thought was that you are zoomed out to far, but I found your town and zoomed to the about the same view. I see major and minor roads in Basecamp.

I think the fact that you see all those lakes and parks indicates that you have City Navigator running. My display of those features looks the same as yours. I see the railroad too.

Here's an odd one. Have you tried changing the "activity profile"? I wonder if you have inadvertently turned off the lines?

I think you found the problem. When I deselect "Lines" , all the roads disappear, leaving only the routes and tracks.

So I finally got it to work. After looking at your screen shot I went to Basecamp and tried to do the same thing. On a Mac you don't have those drop down boxes the way your screen shot shows, it just allows you to select the activity, thats all....but...I simply reset everything to factory default and the basic roads showed up. I then selected City Map 2018.2 bla bla bla and it populated the map with road detail. Done! Thanks for the help guys, see ya out there.
