I go back and forth between Mapsource and Basecamp a lot in planning trips.

I usually to the track editing in Mapsource and then transfer the track to Basecamp to get a more complex picture.

When Basecamp already has a track or waypoint in its database in starts putting numbers in the name. I usually find this annoying and I try to remember to delete old tracks before transferring new ones in.

I have had a number of cases where I think I have deleted all old tracks, but still get the number when I import a new one.

So the question is: Is there any way in Basecamp for searching for all Lists where a given track or waypoint is used?

I did a little searching and couldn't find this.

    Thanks.

Bill, doesn't deleting remove from all lists? I find that in a work session the numbering will happen unless I close Basecamp after the deletion and then reopen. Assume this means the deleted track is still in memory until you close the program

I don't know. There seem to be about 4 flavors of "delete" like "remove", "remove from list","cut".
I have no understanding of the differences among them. And I use different ones with no thought as to what they actually do.
It would be nice if Delete did remove from all lists. Interesting about having to exit the program to get them really deleted.

If I get bored in the next couple of days, I might try some experiments.

But I would still really like to have a feature where I could see all the Lists that a track or waypoint appeared in.

I discovered a technique that at first looked like it might do what I want. If I just put a cursor on a track or waypoint, after a few seconds Basecamp will display a list of tracks and waypoints associated with the cursor position. But it doesn't tell what List the item is in. And the list disappears as soon as the cursor is moved.

Double-click the track or point to OPEN it, the References tab will tell you which lists contain it.

Points need unique names, so the numbers are appended if you import a name already in use. This is the same as if you Duplicate a point. Further changes to that point apply only to the new name.

Copy lets you use the exact same name and coordinates in multiple lists. Changing it in one list changes it in all lists where it is used.

Remove takes a point out of the current list, but leaves it in the database - it will move to unlisted data if it is only used in the current list.

    Delete
takes the point out of the database and all lists. My Basecamp warns before completing this, but I think that is a configurable setting.

Thanks. At first glance this looks like exactly what I was looking for.
