Ed Conde on the New England Riders forum has put together a great tutorial on using BaseCamp. The tutorial evolved from a class agenda from which he's taught a number of BaseCamp haters to use the program in a few hours. This tutorial is very useful for anyone new to BaseCamp or struggling with it, and will get you past the steep learning curve so many folks seem to experience.

Both Windows and MAC versions are now complete.

    And a short video:

Ed, thanks for doing this. As a Mac user I would like to offer up my services to beta test your Mac tutorial, if you have a need for it.

I'm relatively Mac savvy but new to the Garmin 590 and BC.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with and let me know if I can help.

This kind of step by step is just what I needed. I bought basecamp and gave up after several failures. Many thanks for the obvious hard work that's gone into this-and it's free!

Well, *there's* your mistake! You don't need to buy Basecamp, it's a free download. ;)

I do agree this tutorial is long needed.

I don't want to speak for Ed but I believe he wrote both but he is not a Mac person and has someone helping him with the Mac version.

It appears that the Mac version as it is right now is the PC version with some notes added to show the Mac procedure. He posted earlier about waiting until after tax day to start.

Thanks for doing this. I'm pretty computer savvy but Basecamp just pisses me off. It's like they tried to make it hard to learn.

I'm on a Mac and downloaded the Mac version, but it seems not to be too aligned with the Mac UI. Is this still really the PC version? I'm really anxious to get functional with Basecamp, so I hope this will be ironed out soon.

    Thanks again!

Ya, kind of figured that. What through me was that essentially all of the Basecamp setup steps at the begining, the first thing you deal with when you start the tutorial, aren't correct for Mac. I was able to figure out most of the Mac equivilants, but there are still some that seem not to be available on the Mac version of Basecamp. Looking deeper into the doc, it seems there are notes telling you what is different for Mac.

I just don't know that I have the setup as the author wants it, and am not sure how that may impact the tutorial going forward, guess I'll find out. Wish I was clese enough geografically to take the class, as this doc is meant to be used in conjunction with the instruction, so I find I still have questions I wish I could get answered.

So glad the auther took the time to do this, and share it with us. I really need to get functional with Basecamp.
