I can log into garmin express in my browser, but when i go to the first part where you log in using the tool bar in basecamp, it take my user name and pw then asks for a display name for myself and then tells me i cannot connect. if i cancel out then go to create an account it pulls up a browser screen and signs me in on that. should I just go forward or do I have a glitch that will hurt me down the road? It appears im never signed in on basecamp program im using…

Is the link in the first post valid? I need this tutorial, but get a not found message when hitting the link?

I tried the same and got the same results you got. I then went to newEnglandriders.org website then the gps link in the left column and was able to access the tutorial. I hope that all makes sense.

I updated the link in the original post so it should be good now. Thanks for pointing it out.

Is this tutorial from 2015 still relevant to the 2017 program?

Any other good tutorials for the current incarnation of the program anyone can recommend?

Will my previous knowledge and use of Mapsource be a plus or a hindrance in learning and using Basecamp?

    Thanks

It's still current, there have been no significant changes to the program. In fact there have been no updates to BC in well over a year.

There are quite a few videos on the web covering various BC functions but none are as comprehensive as this, IMO.

I personally used MS for years before switching over to BC, and found I did have to unlearn a few things but it was really not that much, and that was without this tutorial.

The biggest difference, and I think the most important thing to understand, when learning BC is the database nature of your information.

As someone who used basecamp for years on Mac, and just had to switch back to Mapsource on an old XP laptop to use a new-to-me 276C, thats the bit that is the hardest to unlearn. I actually much prefer BC.

(I suppose I could run an old version of BC on the laptop, but its slow, and even Mapsource struggles a bit.)
