Real tight corners are a problem, but if I hang out my derriere far enough it's ok. I must be getting better at it, as I wasn't getting as hot as last time, even though it was warmer. I've learnt that I have to accelerate down steep sandy bits and to do a lot of the steering by shifting my weight.

I ride mainly standing up. Sitting down and sticking a leg out wasn't really working with all those trees around and some sections were really deeply undulated. When I first did this sort of stuff, my knees felt like they were going to popp, after a few km as I used to be way too tense.

But if you picture me riding, think slow motion, not Chris Birch. :lol3

All going well, I'll do at least part of the Cape to Cape. It's the panic time of the year for me, but a change of scenery will be good.

Personally, I prefer felt slippers, mine have Edelweiss on them.

It's been quiet here, mainly because there has been nothing new. Now there is something new.

Basil is moving back to Blenheim, that's where I bought him from, even though he started out as an Aucklander.

Yes, been wanting to make the move for a while now. I had the choice, but felt more comfortable in Blenheim. Queenstown is full of tourists and I don't think I could put up with that in the long run. Plus the cost of living there was also a factor.

I'll always be happy to ride my bike down.

Shhh Pete, Blenheim is a wonderous place - well actually it surprises me how parochial Marlboroughites are. There is good fishing, hunting, diving, strong cycling clubs, taking visitors to winerys, Best of all I'll have someone to visit & talk about important things like bikes when I have to visit the inlaws over there.:D

What do yo do for a job? Hopefully something to do with lathes & welders & stuff cos I know where there is a garage full of that stuff abandoned by the owner:evil

I guess you'll be attending the annual celebratory Molesworth opening day ride to hamner & back thru rainbow on Dec 28th?
Numbers were down last year to me & Pete. Still more gravel & less dust for us which is the good part

Funnily enough when I was deciding whether or not to leave Aland where I'd lived for 30 odd years it was Blenheim that made the decision for me. I'm not one for change much (see how long it takes me to replace a back tyre for instance), I was riding my mtb down the wide roads around dinner time & saw people doing the same kind of things in their houses that people did in Aland- listening to the radio while doing their gardening, playing with kids etc. It was the same kind of life however there seemed to be more depth to it. The pastimes are easier get into as the access is quicker. There is a real love for the environment down here.
We would have gone to Blenheim or Nelson but Bec got a job in Nelson first- decision made. The difference in the cost in housing then was a major part. I guess it may be the same since we hear a lot about house prices in Aland. Blenheim has crept up quite a bit with any 'lifestylers' planting grapes as fast as they could.
Every body down here really seemed to get into clubs- I was into Tris & the outdoors etc & after joining the local Tri club i made more friends in the first 6months than I prob did in my life in Aland.
The region is made up of immigrants & they seem to go out of their way to welcome new blood.

Please make sure you bring all your spares down here so I can have a rifle thru them while you are at work:D

better get my A into G or it won't happen...
can't even start it at the moment... Disconnected the ignition
from the ECU... Now I need the red ignition key to re-programme it...
they have forgotten how to talk to each other....Guess what.....it's in bloody Blenheim..

I am not sure how soon I'll be down there. It will depend on how quickly the house sells. Hopefully I won't end up wasting my summer break on the move.

Yes, I'll bring what I have, which is not much. I need a new left mirror myself, since I smacked my one into a post, while keeping too far left. I am looking forward riding the Molesworth again, the rainbow will be new territory. I've noticed that there is a short cut though the Taylor pass road to get to the Awatere Valley. I can't wait to explore it all.

Bring the XR & hack so I don't have to carry so many tools for my reliable BMW - I want to have a ride on it to see if I should build one.

If you reeeealy want to fit in you'll need the correct clothing..... One of those jackets with the buckles up the back and the really long sleeves.
Here's one of the locals :D
