I'm not much of a Google maps type of person, but I went on there to see if I could link to a map of the area. The only roads that showed up were the county roads which we didn't ride. Most of the photos above were taken in the Sheldon Nat'l Wildlife Refuge in the far northwest corner of Nevada, southwest of Denio. Almost all the roads we took are in the Nevada Benchmark Road and Recreation Atlas. High Rock Canyon is just north of the Black Rock Desert.

    Hey Adv'ers,

This Aug 19th 2 riders from this forum and myself are going to set out on a 18 day 2,800 mile journey thru Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana and Colorado returning home Sept 5th

My friend Mike and I have bought the Garmin topo products needed to route this ride properly and we have completed the GPS track.

I am looking for 1 to 3 more people to come along.

The ride will consist of approx 200 miles per day each day with 90% being on EASY dirt and the rest pavement.

camping 60 to 70 percent of the time

if you would like to read about this ride there is a fantastic RR called Forever West here
    http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=647968

this ride is said to be better than the CDR or the Can to Mex ride (which are different rides btw)

If you are intrested let me know..

you must have a 600CC or larger
you must have a GPS and know how to use it

PM me or email me if your intrested.

    Paul

So you're not doing this two up? It's way too early for me to know if I can do this one, but it does sound like fun. How are you guys getting to the start point?

    Just an FYI.

The slide on Eureka Canyon road has been cleared. One lane is
    now open to through traffic.

    Guys,

I travel to SFO every week, since I work in Foster City. I just shipped my bike over there to ride it in the dream land, well anything is a dream land if you are from Miami. So I am planning to ride in the afternoons, after 5 PM, for a couple of hours, any good ride in that area, I have done Skyline drive before. So any suggestions?

Check the watsonville BMW dealer site for a couple good loops out of Santa Cruz county.

East out of Berkeley, there are some fun loops, look at google maps.

South on hwy one is great and spend some time exploring the roads that branch off to the east between sf and Santa Cruz--lots of fun hidden roads.

Don't know of much dirt, though some of the smaller rds are just as rough.

Marin highlands: north over th golden gate bridge and stay as close to the coast as possible. Lots of fun.

Hwy 9 from Saratoga to 236 to empire grade.

Anyone still interested in doing this ride on Saturday? Even if it is just a couple of folks, that would be great. I don't know the route, so it would be good to have a ride leader (or at least some tracks since I have a GPS now).

Following up on the previous interest, here's a gpx file from a recent ride ride:

WARNING: I did not go on this ride and others have pointed out that it may be unlawful to take some or all sections of the route. I don't know, so decide for your self the risk vs reward. Respect the environment, do not trespass on private property, watch out for cattle and remember to shoot heroin responsibly.

However, I'm not certain at this point I can make it Saturday. But not ruling it out yet.

Hey cool, we can upload GPS tracks again!

I hate to say it, but that route has an illegal section and should be removed. Here's a Google map of the open roads and below is my track. Please note that when I made that track Old Hernandez was open. I believe it is currently closed. (If the sign says closed it is, if not go for it, as it was closed due to high water levals.) I've heard they've been stepping up patrols in CC and it's a pricey ticket if caught off the open county roads.

I should be able to make this ride on Saturday. What time are y'all thinking? And where to meet? Depending on rider skill, or more accurately pace, the ride could be extended to Parkfield or out to the coast if we get an early start.

    Cheers!
