What are you riding? BMW MOA NorCal is doing their annual hoo ha up in the Sierras this weekend. Not really a dirt ride - more of a club get together with camping. But there will be an organized GS run Saturday morning on some sort of route lacking pavement. I'm going to stick a toe in and see what it's all about.

Sounds like a hell of a ride as well! Honestly, the more suggestions the better. I set a route but am not particular to any given road. I dislike traffic as well but since I commute on my bike, I frankly I have just gotten used to traffic:lol3

I'm just looking for a ride with fellow riders!:D

Let me know a couple days in advance for a day ride on the weekend and I'll see if I can make it. I'm out close to Tracy, but the Peninsula is home.

That sounds intriguing. I'm on a GSA, so I guess I'd fit in. Got a link?

EDIT: I think I found it, and it will be at Finnon Lake, but looks like only for members?

Right now I'm leaning towards heading up 4 to close to Vallecito and doing the Crandall Peak Trail. Seems easy enough and only 30 miles. It will dump me out on 108 where I can either find a campground or head up one of the other trails there in Stanislaus to hang out for the night.

Yep - Finnon Lake. They have an organized ride heading up Saturday morning from around Livermore, but then you'd miss the GS ride on Saturday morning. Because of this I'm heading up Friday after workish, get there in time for dinner and to set up my tent.

Re members, I thought the same thing - turns out it's actually the opposite. The way this NorCal group works, you have to attend a few things they do as a non-member first, before you can even apply to join. I emailed one of the organizers and he seemed friendly enough and very encouraging of me to show up.

Not being the most die-hard camper, I like the idea of this sort of outing - it's camping, but with facilities nearby and food that I don't have to schlep or prepare. Figure if I like the peeps I meet at this, might check out the big BMW national rally up in Bend in July - I think a lot of these folks go to that.

Hi all... please forgive my seeming inability to use the search functionality.. but I'm trying to find some fun trails to explore this weekend in the peninsula. Could someone point me to where they might be some on the forum?

I'm running dual sport tires at the moment, but would love to begin to find some challenging and off the beaten path stuff. I'd welcome some company!

There are no motorcycle dirt trails on the peninsula that I'm aware of.

We're riding out from San Francisco today to watch flat track racing at the Lodi Cycle Bowl ...

Anyway, kick stands up at 18th Street and Folsom at 1 pm TODAY! :ricky
We hope to be at the track by 4pm ... Racing at 5:30 pm ...

    BAARCers and ADVers always welcome!

    see you in the paddock,

PS: Showing the Dutch Grand Prix on SUNDAY at 4pm at the SFMC ... BAARCers and ADVers always welcome!

Wow. Just wow. I don't think I could do that, despite how much I love riding. I took a little loop from home out to Morgan Territory road & back, left about 9 am and I'm roasted. Leaving at 1 pm?...that's...just...inconceivable.

    Hey HWD!

    Inconceivable! :D

In the event, it was 104 degrees in Lodi, which sounds awful, but wasn't too painful ... It was 106 on the track, but lots of shade in the grandstands ...

Here's a very rough map of the route we may take ... should only be 102 degrees in Lodi ... ha. We may take 160 to 12 to take advantage of cooler weather in the delta ...

The San Francisco Motorcycle Club has a "Race Committee" that raises funds throughout the year so that we can pay the entry fees for the 12 year-old and under racers once a season, as a way to promote and support the youngster's endeavors on the race track, so we'll be doing that today ... in the past, the Lodi Motorcycle Club has let our group in for free ...

Flat track racing is fun to watch, and we have a couple of guys to route for, AJ our 12 year old mascot some of you may remember for the Sheetiron Warm Up at Hollister a few weeks ago ... and his dad, Clay ... :clap

We paid $970 worth of race entries for over 30 kids under 13 ... Some of the best races we saw were the kids ... The 85cc two-stroke kids fly!

The 50cc class, ready to race ...

There's a few more pics here:
    http://caryandjohn.wordpress.com/2013/06/30/kids-race-free/

There were cold drinks at the snack bar, and the ride home at 9:30 pm was cool ...

For all you San Francisco BAARCers, we're showing the Dutch MotoGP event at 4pm today at 18th Street and Folsom ... That's one of the ways our Race Committee raises money during the year for the Lodi kids-race-free event ... from adult-beverage sales at our 1948-vintage fountain! :clap. KLR prices! :lol3

Anyway. An opportunity to meet-n-greet for BAARCers/ADVers on this side of the Bay ... :deal
You know you are always welcome! :ricky

    see you around the campfire,

I'll be 2-up camping in Big Sur on July 4th, around Prewitt Ridge. If you see a white GS, stop and say hi.

It's primitive camping up there, no reservations. I hope we don't have to fight too hard for a spot but it probably will be crowded.

We'll be there Thursday night for sure, we might head over to Escondido on Friday.

BTW has anyone taken the back way in to Escondido campground from Nacimiento road? How's the road (graded, rutted, etc.)?
