What would the whole 5K acres be worth? How much is that each? Why don't more people start clubs and "condo" tracts like this?

Having stood on top of Beaty's Butte this summer, I can tell you it is indeed a cool spot. :D The view is magnificent and the ride up to the top was one of my favorite memories from my trip down there this year.

I sure hope the gate isn't locked next time I am down that way. :cry

Oregonlmd is bidding on the parcel that contains Beaty's Butte.

    :clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap

It is about 400 acres. The assessed value from the county is only about $20,000 with the taxes coming to $190 per year.

Go here to read the current bid:
    http://www.hansenandyoung.com/index.php?subp=1&slb=1&pid=30353&cid=16077

I am in to pay $1 per acre. He is just a regular guy who wants to try to keep a cool spot open to ORV use.

Anyone else want to join in? The auction ends December 11 at 2 pm Pacific Time.

Maybe we could form up some kind of non-profit to manage the property (pay taxes) if you win?

Who knows, maybe this could be the start of a pro-ORV non-profit land holding company?? :D

It shows a sale price on that lot February 12 1998 of $39,599. The county shows Real Market Value at $83,530.

Some day it will probably come down to having to buy land to ride on. Kind of like hunters in densely populated areas that form hunting clubs to buy/lease land to hunt on.

I'm bidding on this parcel with the solitary goal of ensuring that the peak is open to anyone who makes the effort to get there, regardless of mode of conveyance.

From Mastermarine's pic above, you can see how steep and rocky it is. The 412 acre parcel is too steep and generally rough to ride around on. Only the peak has anything somewhat describable as flat.

The view is other-worldly, and as anyone who's been there will tell you, the experience makes a lasting impression.

I invite anyone with the same goal as I state above to outbid me. Though it'd be way cool to be able to state that I've got ownership of such a place as Beatys Butte, what I'm really wanting to happen is to keep it open to all visitors.

Yeah, well, the lot is currently at $110 per acre. $45000. I'm so far out of the running on this its ridiculous. Like the thought of winning a lottery, it was fun to dream about.
