There are a million options for more local.
Nice to see this thread back from the dead
Just back from a work trip yesterday afternoon and hoping to get out on a bike this weekend.
525 and 950A are not ready to ride, so I may just take the 950SM out for a few hours
I decided to take the 9:50 for a ride this morning. I'm up in Big Bear now. if you want to meet in Wrightwood for lunch let me know
Might be wet dirt in high desert for next weekend .
Any adventure bike roads within 2 hours of Thousand Oaks . Santa Barbara or Fraser park ?
Out this way we ride from Cajon Pass to Big Bear........ there are plenty of fire roads this time of the year. Pretty soon the snow will shut down the higher elevations.
We should plan a overnight trip soon
Hmmm In like camping but not so much off the bike at my age. Put together a Mojave Preserve camp and ride? I'm down for base camp and loop rides.
I scouted a nice lower elevation camp site on my way home from Nevada Rally about 15 miles south from Baker on Kelbaker Road. Nice flat established site with a fire ring. Dry camping, no facilities, 2700 ft. elevation. Site is one mile from paved road.
I can go weekdays or weekends.
I was thinking camping from the truck to.....maybe in the next couple of weeks??? Anyone else interested?
Have you ever rode the Ludlow to Needles Truck Trail? I've been wanting to explore that area for part of a future big bike ride out to Parker.
Never heard of it.
How about stage at Shadow Mtn Road and Hwy 395 north of Adelanto on Saturday or Sunday? Easy parking 1/4 mile from pavement. Ride to Lake Los Angeles for lunch. Lots of old school desert riding between El Mirage and Edwards AFB. Fun and flowing trails, some sand washes, two track, very little pavement. Cool views of Edwards as well as Jawbone and Tehachapi to the north. 100 miles or less. On return leg to staging the sun will be at our backs all the way for great light conditions.
I can go Sunday.
Lets go! you'll really like this spot.
break in that new timing belt!
Used to ride that area off Shadow Mtn every weekend in the late 70's. Lot of SRA desert races in the area. I think it was in Hi Vista that had the coldest beer in the world-a pitcher that that would really get your motor revin'. Then south to overlook Phelan. Great area, just watch for mine shafts and crossroads-it's a real eyeopener to hit the opposite wall at WOT! Quit riding when some asshat in an El Camino started shooting at bikers with a rifle and the sheriff didn't seem overly concerned.
It's been a lonnng lonnng time. Picked up a little bike to do some fun(er) trails. Still have the 990. Matt? You out of town? Hoping to start meeting up and getting some fun long rides again.
Nice sticker on the front of that new bike ... it was great seeing you Thanksgiving weekend. I'll be looking to get out for a ride on Sunday if you want to get that pumpkin back in the Dez.
Good to see you are still around buddy
If the winds calm down I will try to get out for a local ride with dad this weekend.
This has me wondering if anyone ever does the routes up to Big Bear from the Joshua Tree/Pioneertown side, via Pipes Canyon or Burns Canyon. I've done them in a Jeep, in winter, and it was a wonderful trip. Not too much snow. I was in Pioneertown this past weekend and looking longingly up at those slopes.
I rode that area a month or so ago. We were riding the big bear area, and droped down to pioneer town for lunch
