Could maybe do a street only ride... How late is Newcombs open?
9ish depending on traffic... Known to shut down early
Web site says closed now ....
Off to Big Bear and beyond
Home at 2:15am
Full moon was amazing... incredibly bright :eek1
I'll post some pics tomorrow
Actually, that would be later today
A few pics from last night ...
10:30pm - Climbing up Radford/Converse (2N06) towards BB, lights of the IE below.
11:00pm - Somewhere on Skyline/Grandview (2N10).
11:30pm - Boulder Bay.
11:45pm - Entering Holcomb Valley on Pilogue (2N09).
12:00am - Holcomb Valley (3N16) between the campground and Bellville.
12:30am - Dropping down to Lucerne Valley on Hwy18 .
1:00am - Rabbit Lake.
It was a fun ~175 mile ride
Might've been nice to have someone along, but dust would've sucked. Very dry and no wind. If I stopped, my own cloud would surround me and just hang there. Passed a couple trucks going opposite direction in Holcomb Valley and was riding in their dust for miles. Kept thinking I was catching someone with their lights off.
All pics were taken with a a cheap Canon point-n-shoot, hand held ('cept for last one), no tripod, no flash. Used 'program' mode with ISO set to 3200. Sharper, but barely anything visible at 1600 or less. I have zero luck with the pre-configured 'night time' or 'long shutter' settings. Nothing shows up.
Great report. The pictures are amazing and look like you took them in daytime with a filter.
Since I couldn't make Kennedy Meadows this weekend I figured I'd take the big girl out for a nice mountain ride. No real set plans, work my way up to Big Bear for lunch then back down to Arrowhead jump in the lake if it's hot. Mostly Fire road simple stuff. be home by 5:ish
Awesome pics !
What's the dirt/street mix? I'm planning to ride my 525 Sunday and if there's enough dirt involved could stage somewhere near the trails/dirt roads.
I'm thinking about riding local hills from my house in Apple Valley. 90% offroad, lots of single track, nothing crazy. intermediate level pace and trails. Done when it starts getting hot.
Street legal required, off road bikes 650 cc and under.
I'm recently back on a dirt bike again and have a feeling I might have trouble keeping up on the intermediate pace & trails.
dont be skeered, you have the "shorts of destiny" at your side.
Aiming to get out around the Arrowhead and Big Bear areas tomorrow (7/27) on the big-bike.
Probly rolling out of garage ~8am and spending most of the day up in the mtns.
This will be a reconnaissance ride for a future event
Maybe not a whole lotta dirt, lotsa wandering to random places and stopping to check things out.
Fawnskin ride this afternoon from my place in Apple Valley. Mostly easy, some fun trails. Dinner at North Shore Cafe. Home no later than 9 pm. Stands up at 2:30 pm.
I will enjoy the fruits of your labor
