It's time once again to begin our chat about one of ADVRider's most beloved group riding events: the Best of the Montana 1000. As has been the case from prior year's rides, the ride will start from somewhere in Montana on the 3rd Saturday in July, 2016 or July 16, 2016 from a beginning point yet to be disclosed. Wansfel and I have had some discussions about possible routings and it's quite likely that this year's route will be exclusively in Montana (perish the thought!) and will include some really different riding from prior year's BOM1000 rides. For the uninitiated, the BOM 1000 rides grew out of the original 2 Montana 1000 rides that were run out of Darby, Montana some 8 years ago or so. Not wishing the event to die, I put together a ride the following year and it's been going ever since. Wansfel has done most of the heavy lifting with respect to the route planning, but he and and I are in frequent communication about routes, stops, and other ideas related to the ride. I don't think that there is a rider who has done one of our BOM1000 rides who has not come away with a better appreciation for the terrific off pavement riding and scenery that can be found in Montana. We have many repeat riders and each year brings new riders into the fold. We have riders that come from all over the country to do this event. For 2015, we even had Big Dog Adventures join us and he and his riding partner were the only only ones to fully complete the route within planned time. Kudos to Mark!! See the ride reports link below for more details. The ride is planned to be big bike friendly. There is no intentional single track. I personally ride a WR250R and it's fabulous for this ride. Wansfel is on a KTM690 and the 2015 BOM1000 saw a huge contingent of KTM690's. The ride is a full on camping ride with most of our campsites in remote areas. One just has to have about 125-150 miles of fuel range as we pass through a fuel stop at least once a day. We'll not initially tally who's planning to do the ride, but we will later in the next post in this thread. But please indicate your interest in the BOM1000 ride by posting into this thread. Feel free to ask any questions and offer any suggestions as to possible route sections in Montana that we should consider. For many of us, the anticipation of this ride is pretty salivating. I trust it will be for you as well.
