Best tire

    Rear tire on my 2007 GS is leaking slowly. Tire is a Tourance and has about 1500 miles on it. Had a screw in it earlier this year and got it professionally plugged and patched. However if i don't ride the bike for week or so, i notice tire becomes under inflated. I've decide i'm going to change the rear tire.

    I live on the east coast (NYC) and most of my riding is on streets and highway touring and I ride year-round except for when it snows. What is best tire for 95% street as I do not off road?

    Do I need to match the front or is it ok to keep the front (Tourance)?

    Tourance is a great tire but if you don't need the off road capability try the Scorpion Trail or the Conti Trail Attack

    They always felt good in the rain
    They are smoother and more quiet than pr3.The rear pr3 tire sings.
    Pr3 turns neutral, TA turns in quicker.
    Pr3 feels worse on hot tar strips.

    I've always been very happy with my Tourances. By the way, have you tried replacing or atleast tightening the core in the valve stem? The shop that plugged your tire likely removed the core to deflate it. Sometimes they don't get tighetened up all the way or they get a piece of dirt under the seal when you remove them. I'd replace the valve stem core (costs about $1.00) and see if it stops leaking before I replace the tire.

    I agree with JLeather, check the stem.

    I'm also a big fan of the Tourance if you have no offroad to do. Great stick, great mileage.

    Check the valve cap for debris. It can push down on the core and allow air to be released. Jon

    Interesting. I've got no issues with tire noise from the PR3s, but it sounds like I should try the Conti.

    Shinko Raven or Verge. They have bigger grooves and deeper tread than other tires, I ride on gravel frequently and these do very nice for street tires. And I have drug foot pegs, they simply work. And inexpensive.

    There have been a LOT of substandard valve stems out there. On some the rubber will be bad in less than a year, as it was inferior grade.

    On my 2 year old riding mower, I heard a pop while mowing, the metal part just shot out. Instant flat. All the valve stems were were very bad. Same size as used on motorcycles.

    Always check your valve stems.

    +1 on the Pirelli Scorpion Trail, if you can't patch that Tourance. The Scorpion has been excellent on road, and decent off road.

    Love 'em.

    The name is misleading because they are definitely a 90/10 road oriented tire. I would not put anything else on my GSA.

    I always ran the Anakee 2's got anywhere from 10 - 14K miles out of them, handled well in the rain and ok in light snow <.5" (I ride year round). Hardly any road noise when new however when you get a flat spot (live in Indiana not much turning) they sing. I didn't really have to spend hardly any time scrubbing them in either.

    I've had non-EXP tourances on my GSA...good stuff for light gravel work in my opinion.

    I've got the PR3 Trails on now and they stick like nobody's business and are the cat's ass in the rain. Better mileage too!

    Yeah, I'm thrilled with the rain performance from them. Might as well be riding on dry pavement.

    I'm intrigued by the Conti's, but they're substantially more expensive.
