    Been enjoying tooling around on the little bike, its a blast. Totally different from my big beast Honda XR650R.

    Hmmm...how come I cant do this.... Its not rocket appliance!
    This dude must have made his grade 10.

    Notice how the bottom of the motor is protected by the lower frame tubes, nothing extends below the frame.

    Had one exactly like that - an '02 w/ the DR200 motor. It didn't really work as a trials bike (wrong gearbox and limited power), but it was a fun small trail bike. Mine would cruise @ 60 and maybe go 70 w/ me on it (6'-1", 200#)

    I was told that the importer brought in a total of 10 in 2002.

    Very cool, I am not sure on where it tops out, but the gearing seems quite low. I understand they came with two CS sprockets, and if needed going one up on the CS should be easy.

    Cruising at 60 is just fine, but nothing left in reserve. I am looking forward to putting around on some more technical traisl for fun. Its going to be my wife's starter bike, so the stock mirrors and turnsignals are coming off....hoping it does not get TOO beat up.

    Morning Guys n Gals,

    I had one of these when they were first launched and it was the worst braked motorcycle I'd ever owned. It head the pads, the discs, the master cylinder replaced and it was no better. In the end I just sold it as I couldn't get it to stop.

    And before you say it's a small trail bike so don't expect a lot from the brakes, I have since purchased a number of XT225 & XT250 Serow's and their brakes are way better.

    Thanks for the tips on the brakes, will keep an eye out for that....not ridden it enough yet to see how they hold up.

    Speaking of brakes, the rear master cyl seal leaks, so needs to be rebuilt. Any ideas on a source for parts? The Beta America website has some US dealers, so I will start there.

    Well, over here Beta's are pretty much known as a mix between trial and enduro bikes which can also be ridden on the road, if needed.
    To me, they sound like a good alternative to the KTM freeride, although being a bit more Enduro-oriented.
    I sure would like to try one of those :evil

    ....so many bikes I'd like to have one day :wink:



    In case that you can't get the needed parts from a US based dealer and you need help getting the parts from a european seller, let me know.

    Thanks for the offer on helping to find parts! The rear master cyl needs rebuilding, will see if I can get it from a US dealer.

    Soon the bike will sport some fresh Shinko trials/DS tires. Since its a low-powered bike, light weight, and just for casual dirt riding I dont mind putting on some buget rubber.

    They do also produce Beta Alp 4.0 with 400cc engine. Just talkd with friends that it would be quite ideal secondary/winter bike. But theres nothin wrong wirh 200 tough :)

    Had good luck with getting the back brake working. The rear master cyl has a rubber cap that tends to capture water and cause corrosion on some of the associated hardware. Took it all apart, cleaned well, and its sealed up, not leaking any brake fluid. :clap:clap:clap

    Looks like the only part I need to order are the two chain guide rollers, as it looks like they broke apart.

    Fresh set of tires are next!

    I have a 2005 Chinese copy of the Beta Alp 200, (RKM200E5) made by Zongshen and imported by Roketa. Same frame, forks, swing arm, bars, rack, speedo, etc., but with the CG200 (Honda clone) engine and better brakes. Wonder if Zongshen made the bikes for Beta? Nice little bike for someone with short legs but too cramped to be comfortable for a guy with a 36" inseam.

    I bought the bike not knowing exactly what is was then discovered later it was a trials/enduro/street bike. Can't comment on how it works as a trials bike. Not great as an enduro with the short travel suspension but is very light weight and handles great on the road once the gear ratio is changed. Top speed is about 65 mph.

    I don't know if any of the 400's were brought here. The 200's are pretty rare, but there are some out there.

    Your best bet may be the Chinese copy mentioned above.

    I had a 200 for a while. Fun, but limited power. The 400 would have much better power, but they are much heavier too. Neither of them make good trials bikes.

    If you think you want to try a trials bike - buy a real trials bike. The '05 Beta Rev3 I have now was cheap and is most excellent fun.
