Good to see a local on this rather quiet thread :deal

    Hi Max :wave

I am really pleased with mine, for the trail potterer that I am it is great.

I never did solve the clutch lever boot by the way, it's just kind of sat in there since.

It took me some time to realise why I was having hot start problems at first, basically slugging a load of fuel into the carb when stalling if on throttle, happens less as I stall less :lol3, and yes I subsequently found that KTMs sometiems dont have an 'easy-find' neutral either, a bit of a pain at gates but I find it always starts fine (if not stalled).

I haven't had to buy any spares yet, be interested to know where you get yours from.

Alright Rich, I'm just over the water from you in Magor ( J23 M4)...

Ive only just bought the Beta but have had many KTM's to compare with and the Beta really is the dogs.........

Yours truly looks a minter....Mine is bogging right now...Ive got the big burn up tommorow...will do in excess of 200miles...Not looking forward to the temps...They say it will barely rise above zero :eek1

    Then I will give her a service, new C+S ect....Mine is a 450 2007 same as yours....

In terms of spares you can ring John Lampkin direct OR if its engine then KTM...Either way theres no major issue.

You are more than welcome to come out with us......lots of rides planned over Xmas too........

    Good riding!

Thanks Max, although TBH I'm not getting out that much at the moment (fair weather rider and a bit pushed with work and home stuff) it's odd weekends for me but it would be great to come put at some point see some new places etc :thumb

Yes, Magor, I think I can see over the channel from my house :lol3

Mine is a bit less mint now. It came from someone who looked after it very well and is a very good rider, whereas mine spends a lot of time on the ground :evil. I am doing oil and filter on mine this weekend as it happens. Only other issue with mine is a very draggy clutch, especially when it is this cold.

Have a good ride this weekend and post some pics!

Might be nice to get a few more Beta pics up

    On Herefordshire / Welsh borders

    Bogged down

One approach to rim polishing and one less over jacket :doh

    The Beta and something unique

    Just inspecting something :augie
    [IMG]

It does get very sleepy, this Beta
    [IMG]

    Plays nicely with KTMs
    [IMG]

It likes X-Challenges, so I had to get one to keep it company in the garage

Anyone got any pics of the new 09s out and about yet?

Wow we had an extreme ride out over the beacons.....

I trashed my beta on the "wall of death" - a bloke went over the edge several years back ......it was game over!!!!

I also got wedged with a tree and the side panel snapped - I little suprised how brittle they look BUT it did get bent badly.....

The beta has been in many vertical positions today......Fallen off about 6 times but being so slippery and the challenges we took on, it was not such as bad result .....

six of us started and only 3 finished.....

She also overheated on the ancient " london Rd".....

We had a Pari Dakar guy with us and by lunch time he'd had enough:rofl

The Beta performed superbly in treacherous conditions ,so smooth on rock climbs.....BUT 450 power does have its downsides - tried to ride a very thin ledge but 3 times she slipped into the gulley below...My mate got it thro for me luckily as it was dark and I had no strength left.

Now I need to order some spares......

Just cleaned her up and Ive taken the anodising offa real wheel a bit - skimmed a rock slightly......

looking more closely at the plastics they do seem brittle...As said I did break side panel but that was my stupid fault...

Sadly no pics and TBH I would'nt wanted to show anyone as I spent a lot of time stuck in rock gulleys ( limestone) which was identical to ice - DEADLY!!

I'm a little gutted as I realise this sexy machine will get battered ultimately but then thats what its for....

Will take some pics soon as Ive serviced and done bits....

    Cheers
    Max

I remember when I rode Beta's on a couple of guided trips in Andalucia and the guide Trev used to say he didnt think the plastics wern't quite up to KTM standards. I guess you are finding that that is the case :evil

I dont think a plastics kit is too much money for a refurb at some point.

Glad the bike seems mechanically up to scratch.

Oh, and I 'polished' off the anodising a bit when my rain jacket came off the back and wound itself in the sprocket, dragging the chain guard against the wheel :doh :lol3

the plastics aren't to bad.. I've laid mine over at race speeds a few times with no problem

I did however snag my left radiator shroud with my boot and ripped it partial off when landing off a jump at the mx track... I just put larger washers in and kept riding.. I did order new shrouds but havent' put them on yet as the old ones haven't come loose again.

the price on the replacments aren't too expensive.. I can get a whole kit for $120 US.. which is right there with other brands.

Good news I ordered side panel from John Lampkins yesterday and lo and behold they have arrived this morning...Superb customer servicei!!!

Intially I was worried about obtaining spares and the costs BUT I can now put to sleep any fears.....

    Side panel = £14.80 / 23USD
    Air filter = £15.80 / 25USD

Beta UK did comment that the 07 onwards plastics are very good so I have no concerns....the boys @ Caerphilly enduro club were moaning about the quality of plastics on the new KTM's saying they were poor..!

time to change filters / C+S and other little bits....

Glad to see the Beta thread still alive. I ride a 525 and am in the process of transforming mine into a dual-sport type thing, with a screen, huge tank, bigger seat, more oil capacity etc, etc. I'll post pics as soon as I've figured out how. May the force be with you.

I bet these have the Mecca Systems on them.. It looks like they could be mounted up pretty easy.. I have been thinking of rallying mine our as well.

I really would be interested in seeing someone else's build so post pictures when you get started.

I was thinking of ordering the Acerbis ktm 23 liter tank and seeing what I needed to modify to make it fit.. who know.. might be too much trouble.

    hmmm.. things to think about

I will be using the same Acerbis tank as you are thinking of. It is on it's way to me, and only then will I be able to see what I have to do with the heat gun to make it fit. The frame is very different from the KTM's and as such I think I'll loose about 1.5 litres of capacity. The rads are KTM and so is the motor and so I think this tank will make the best platform to start from. I also thought about the 640 adv tank, but you can't change that with a heat gun (glass reinforced plastic). Will send pics.

I contacted my Beta Dealer 75 miles from the house to order more air filters for my bike. The parts guy informed me that they are dropping the Beta line.. something to do with the state of texas and the Franchise laws with the way Beta is set up in the States. I guess they were having issues getting the state to process the titles..

    total Bummer:cry

but.... they gave me a total awesome deal on thier existing Beta parts:clap

Not only am I getting a stack of new/slightly used filters
    I'm getting:
    Leo Vince ti exhaust
    radiator braces
    set of used plastics
    set of new plastics
    race decals
new cycra front mx # plates
3 sets of oem hand guards
    brake pads
    new oem stock skid plates
    5 rear sprokets
    new rear race tail light
and some take off parts from their race bikes.

all at a price less than the cost of the exhaust....

now I will need to find a new parts supplier...... or I guess i will have to find out how to became the new Texas Beta Dealer...

Funnily enough Ken, here in the UK dealers that are franchised for KTM are not allowed to sell Beta.........Thats not official but I very much doubt anyone can prove me wrong...KTM are very protective of their line...

Dealers will always side with Orange due to popularity - I believe this to be a major issue why they ( Beta)have not been more successful here in the UK...

Sounds like you had a good deal all the same.....Wonder how much he'd charge to DHL to UK:clap
