For anyone that wants to ride up to Big Bear by dirt on Friday the 16th we'll be meeting 434 I Street in San Bernardino http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=434+s.+I+st,+san+bernardino,+ca&sll=34.097697,-117.30242&sspn=0.008582,0.01296&layer=c&ie=UTF8&cbll=34.097271,-117.302463&ll=34.096542,-117.302463&spn=0.007125,0.012188&z=16&iwloc=addr at or after 8am.

This is a friend's shop "Tim Robel Concepts" and is located at the exit ramp for Mill St on the 215 South about a block away from Chaparral.

We'll have a truck available to put some gear in and expect to roll out no later than 9am (earlier if everyone is ready)

I've made the reservations and for anyone interested now is the time to make your plans to attend.
The dates are 16-18 May 2008 the rangers told me that would be the best time before the summer when it's crowded and before fire season starts. We'll be staying at the Lake Loop at Serrano Campground near Fawnskin at Big Bear Lake. I'll be going a day early, on Thursday, to get things set and to contact the rangers for the latest reports on trail closures.
I'm keeping it basic here, you can find all of the details about the event on my homepage I'll be making changes as the trip develops so check in on it every once in awhile.
As of today from Stromtrooper.com, Advrider.com, and my2wheels.com there's about 30 people interested so this should be fun.
There was snow and ice in spots today, when the weather gets nicer I'll be looking for volunteers to scout out a few trails with me. I'll keep everyone posted on that too.

Here's the current roster of confirmed and unconfirmed riders I'll update this as the trip develops.

Sounds like another good time to ride and meet more FFs. I'll put this down on my calendar.

Thanks K60ST for taking the lead.

OK, I'm in, spot 124. No need for the RV loop. I'll be there Friday morning. I have stayed in spots 114, 117, 130, 131, and in the RV loop too. The loop you picked has the best Lake view IMO. Pot Luck sounds great. The closer we get to May, we'll figure out who is bringing what.

Count me in for a scout trip.

DAMN!!!! My wife is due May 23rd, so I won't be able to make it. She'd never forgive me if I was away offroading and camping while our second young'n was born.

    Maybe next time....... :cry

    Regards,

    John

Thanks, I need to take that map off of there. It was supposed to show the trails going up to Big Bear from Apple Valley, then Clarks grade coming down. And that was in the preplanning stages when it we were talking about a one day half on half off road trip.

I have web and hard copies of the OHV trails and for the most part any plans will depend pretty much on what's open or closed at the time.

Cool, the list is building. There are so many trails back there, we won't have any problems putting on dirt miles!

What would be cool is everyone toss in a ten spot, then order up a BBQ, & Booze delivered to the camp site from a Fawnskin dinning facility or some other BBQ place in Big bear.......Thoughts?

You should have no problem with a BBQ, at worst you will only be able to use propane stoves. Most of the campgrounds also have fire rings which are ok to use 99% of the time.

After a long day riding, eating freeze dried chow while looking across the lake at fine eateries just won't do. The BBQ idea really sounds good. My vote is to schedual it for Saturday night. I'll eat whatever I can carry on the bike for Friday night.

You dont really need to bring any food up, the great thing about BigBear is pretty much wherever you camp your only about 15 minutes from Ralphs.

I was tossing around the idea of bringing my BBQ, but after a full day of riding and a few beers, I'm not going to want to cook nothing.

I just spoke to Audrey, the owner of Outlaw BBQ. She said they would be happy to deliver to us at the campground. We can call in our order or maybe just ride into town, order, pay for it and wait for delivery at a specified time. She said the menu is different from the internet due to some changes, but from what I see, it ALL looks tasty. She said she will fax me the updated menu Monday. I'll scan it and try and post it here. Hell, for food and tip for no more than $20, that sounds like the way to go!
