Anybody planning on riding to Daytona From the ATL for bike week? If so when, where ya staying, when ya comin back? I usually stay at a friends B&B but they have since sold it and I'm looking for other accomidations. Camping would be fine, but a bed and shower even better. Maybe some of us can go together? Let me know.

Stayed with Krautbikeman last year. He lives in South Daytona. Every year I swear I'm not going back but then we have days like tomorrow with a reported high of only 41 degrees.:vardy

I've never been myself but plan on going this year. I would like to ride down with some of you guys and hang out. Hell I can camp, or get a room.

I'll be heading out on Wednesday, staying somewhere in middle\south GA, then to Daytona on Thursday. I'm staying at a hotel in Palatka but right now all the beds in my room are taken.

P.S. There is a guy over in the Ride Reports forum who is trying to put together a DS ride for sometime that week.

Palatka?? That's 65 miles from Daytona (1 hour and 40 minute ride approx.). :huh A real pain in the neck if you plan on doing demo rides in the am and also a real hassle getting back to the hotel in the pm. Almost 4 hours of your day are spent going back and forth. Nooo Been there done that!!

    Is there anything closer??

    Hi!

I'm a bit curious. I'm invited over from Norway to join some relatives for the bike week! Really looking forward to this! However I was wondering - Is it only a HD-thing or could I actually find some ADV stuff there as well?

And does anyone know of any good ADV stores in the area - I need some new riding gear and stuff for my KTM 950, and if I found while I’m there it would be great!?

    Thanks,:1drink

With over 300,000 people you'll find just about every brand of bike in grand numbers. As far as gear, there aren't any stores per say however; you should be able to find a good deal of items in the vendors area at the Speedway.

[IMG] Daytona Ride Saturday March 11th
For anyone coming to Daytona. I'll be leading a group from Deland Florida (about 15 miles west of Daytona) through some pretty tame (by Florida sand standards) riding through the Ocala National forest. See details below.
I also plan on providing a roll chart for directions and having alternate street only routes.:clap
Anyone that's interested can contact me at EbarDP48@aol.com.
You can also read more about the ride on Adventure rider at this link. Make sure you read the whole thing as I've had to move the date from Friday the 10th of March to Saturday the 11 of March.:D

    [IMG] News Flash..Change of Date...
Hate to do this but it looks like the 2006 Daytona Adventure ride will have to be moved from Friday March the 10th to Saturday March 11. That may help some and hurt others. I based the ride on Friday because the Supercross was (and still is) listed in Cycle news and Racer X as being held on Saturday...I just went on the AMA, Daytona Speedway and supercross.com and they list it as being run on Friday march 10th...the same day I had originally scheduled the ride.
All I know is that someone really screwed the schedule up and it's listed wrong on the major magazine web sites.:baldy
I won't be able to watch the races and do the ride on the same day...hence the change to Saturday the 11th.
Everything I posted earlier ( just a few posts ago....see notes below)
will still apply. Meeting in Deland at the Huddle House on 15A, just south of Plymouth Ave.(see map link below)
Sorry, but I'm not the only one that may be suprised at the date mix up.
Hope this helps more people than it hurts.:2cry

We'll be starting our ride in Deland about 15 miles west of Daytona Speedway. Might as well post it here now. I'll ask that everyone to meet at the Huddle House on Spring Garden Ave (A.K.A. 15A) just south of Plymouth Ave. Here's a Yahoo Map. Everyone up for meeting at 8:00am?
Yahoo! Maps - Deland, FL 32720-3144

I'm planning on getting to Daytona Early Thursday and Taking in the short track races on Thursday night. If anyone else is up for it, I'll post more info a little later.:D

Sure, if you want to pay $200+ per night with a 5 night minimum.

According to Yahoo maps it is 63.7 miles. Of course, if I let Yahoo maps dictate my route then I'd sell my bike and buy a SUV. The hotel I stay at is located just south of Palatka, off of Hwy 20. This is my 3rd year staying there. It takes me about 40-45 minutes to get to Daytona via some nice back roads that miss the majority of the traffic. I go to Daytona to watch the racing and ride my bike. For me, being able to pay less than $100 per night and getting to ride at the start and end of my day works pretty well. The closer you get the more $$$ you are going to pay, unless you want to camp. What I suggested works pretty well for me. The dude asked for opinions and he got mine. I reread your post and can't seem to locate your suggestion for a place to stay. I did find plenty of criticism though.

P.S. I got to ride the new Speed Triple, DL1000, and FZ6 last year at the demos. Best I recall I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Yeah the demo rides are great. I have demo ridden a ZX12R, ZX9R, DL1000 Vstrom, all the Buell sportbikes, and many others over the years. Probably the most fun of any demo though was the first year the DRZ400S came out. It was fun having that thing pinned at 88 mph going down those long flat roads around back behind the Speedway. Just remember if ya want to demo ride the best bikes ya better get there real early to sign up. if ya show up later than 830am and try to sign up you will only end up riding a Sportster at 445pm!
For those who havent ever checked it out, make sure ya go into the infield the weekend of the 4th and 5th and watch the great CCS/Formula USA races.
I will be at the track from the 2nd thru the 7th for the races. We always end up over at Hooters for some post racing grub for any of you all who might want to join us!

    Hey Mark 1305,
1st..you're from Florida, so you know it doesn't rain here. :evil
And second a nice rain would help to pack down some of the sandy sections. :clap
This might be a blessing for those not used to riding sand. :(:
FYI, I plan on trying to keep it tame (by Ocala standards) so some of the bigger bikes will enjoy it.
Now you guys on the GSs don't come unglued. I know some of you guys enjoy a nice day at the dunes, just wanted it to be as comfortable as possible for the largest (read most diverse) group. :grinner
Here'a a frapper link for those planning on attending. sign in and post yourself here if you'd like. Adventure Tour 06 Frappr!
