    Guzzis....

One went past the other day reasonably quickly. It sounded HARD. It reminded me of the hot one ridden by Brendan Ryan at the Port races.

What's happening in those engines that makes it sound like sledgehammers are striking steel beams? They don't burble, growl, howl or rumble - they kinda bang,

    Anyone know?

Okay Volty, what's the plan & where did this one come from? Looks a failed Cafe Racer project? R65 or R45 (I know you had a stash of R45 parts).

Tony how are those flatslides working out for you? Did you see on the CtC we met up with Garry from Taupo who passed on his regards.

Came from ChCh and used at Ruapuna. My plan is to fit the 470cc kit, up the compression, fit 32mm carbs, 336 grind cam and see how it goes.
    Its deregistered so no guilt.

sorry volty not tying to hijack. that hardcase garry with old planes and chopper on front lawn?
flatslides pretty good strait outta the box. feels clean right thru the range but top end no better still only 180 on velocometer(note with 17" wheel/i'll fit the 18" and see wot happens)
.would the big tank affect that much? and even more strange it seems to be able to do 190 on gravel????
may have to get a new cable made up as sometimes idles too fast (taller carbs/big tank=kink)
looking at that motomart ride to coast next week ?

Dunno, he didn't mention that. He was riding a well modified DR, had previously owned (& now sold) a Guzzi, & said he knew you
I'm out for a few weeks to allow the ribs to heal :fitz

    Seasons Greetings all.
Spent the last 6 months of quality garage/riding time getting the house ready to sell. Well thats over and in the process of moving.

We have a stand at the up coming Classic Bike show imaginatively called 'Auckland Airheads":D
There will be a handful of R90/S's in various states and even my R90 race bike.
    http://classicmotorcycleshow.co.nz/

Due to work wont be making the Taupo races but Adrian and Paul with the R90s and Triumph 750 will be there.
    http://www.nzcmrr.com/index

Hampton Downs is on the following week and we might have a covered Pit like at the Barry Sheene.
Only changes I will be making to the R90 are a new set of sticky Avons.
If your at the show or the racers pop over and say hi.:D

Yes it turned up, put a battery in it, new fuel lines and took it for a WOF.
Did 250 km run around the Waikato and it seems to go ok. I must chase up the original owner for the story.
I was surprised by the difference in performance over the R90/6, more stomp and seems to rev out more happily.Gearbox is better or should I say less bad.

''Track parades by modern MV Agusta everyday.'' Wow, who thought that up for a classic meeting...and then used a photo of a classic MV in the announcement ?

Getting bike prepped for Hampton Downs in a couple of weeks, new Avons, and looking at the exhaust, currently its a 2 into 1 with a reverse cone 'silencer' that's been gutted and a plate welded in with some 8mm holes, looks pretty restrictive to me, I might make up a few different ones as they are easy to swap out. Just need to pass the 93 Db.
Also displaying the bike at the Classic Bike Show in the weekend :eek1, that and the other two BMWs :evil

Bit of tank bling and go rid of the ugly number boards off the tail section.
If it can't be fast , may as well look fast.
R90s is interesting, I spoke to original owner this week and he gave me the early history, 1st of 2 R90s' sold new in New Zealand in 1974 along with another that went to Wellington and sat in a lounge ( so the story goes) for over 20 years and only has just over 100 kms on it.
Well.....this weekend they are both going to be reunited for the first time in 40 years, like one of those tv shows.
One has got 160 000 kms and stories of the South Island and crashing in Queen Charlottes Sound and crashing on ice in the Waikato the other of years of not aging a day sitting in a lounge.

Great Weekend at Hampton Downs, Weather was very good.
We had the band back together, with Trustme's Triumph, Sidknees R90s and my Bavarian Tractor.
Did practice on Friday to try out the new sticky Avon race tyres. I don't think they will last as long at the BT45's, you could see bits coming off the front and turn 1 and 6 give the front a hard time. Avon guy said to put more pressure in and maybe in the future go to a wider 18" rim.
Saturday did two races and hovered around the 1m30 lap times, a couple of bikes behind the Harley 1000.:cry
Scratch race was excellent, based on rider lap times. I had an almighty 3 way battle with a 350 Aermacchi and a Vincent Grey Flash.Hard work trying to keep a touring bike up with more sporting rides thru the corners.
Passed them both on the outside of Turn 6 and full power up the hill.:clap
Harley guy gave me the 'talk" about Franklin Cams and how they made his bike slow till he got the proper ones.
I have a Franklin Cam.... " Thats why your bike is slow...":huh
Sunday 9:00 we were first up.
I got a good start and kept Mr Harley in view.
I got past a BSA A65 then closed in on the Harley. Took him out of the hairpin and the superior speed of the " Slow" BMW pulled away..... then closed on a Triumph 750 and just about got him on the line but 1/10 of a second too late.
    Best lap time was 1:28.
Best time ever 1:27 so not a bad weekend....other than locking keys in van, leaving helmet at home, forgetting to turn fuel on and stopping on the track....detail stuff.:lol3

That was one seriously soft tyre, slicks are harder than that! Like having a front tyre made out of crocs, it's a wonder it wasn't squirming all over the place. The Classic Festival has gone a bit strange - better for riders and spectators...but the rest of the weekend has gone.
