I believe the point of the likes of BMW, KTM and Harley Davidson building cheap bikes in India is to gain access to their market. By building in India they probably avoid import duties etc and can compete with Royal Enfield.

Why? Well India is the 2nd most populated county in the world with almost 18% of the worlds population. They are not far behind China and increasing faster so will soon be #1. They are a young average age and growing in wealth. Motorcycles are probably their primary means of powered transport.

Australia, on the other hand, is 53rd most populated with a mere 0.32%. We are older on average and motorcycles here are a small percentage of our vehicles.

So I really doubt if BMW really cares what a few Aussies on Advrider think of the G310....

What is it about the constant reference to weight? It matters not a fuck! You planning bench pressing the fuckin thing? Its an entry level multi purpose bike that hopefully will encourage more people to enjoy our sport with as few compromises as possible. Its a rock solid little bike and they will sell a heap (I hope). The constant reference to weight just gives me the shits. Some clown asking about air intake for water crossings is just the straw that broke this old cables back. Rant over.

I was thinking about buying a scooter to duck down to the shops and run around on but I reckon one of these would make more sense, I'll have to try one out.

If it was 200cc bigger and 30+ kgs lighter I'd like it too.
    But no cigar from me.

Ever tried picking up a laden bike during a demanding ride? At altitude? When you're a female rider? Solo?
Believe it or not, not every overlander is a strapping 6'2" Canadian lumberjack. Weight DOES matter to a great many people who use their bikes off the bitumen and outside the streetlights. Even a DR needed two of us to lift it at 5000m in Bolivia and we needed a rest after. Celia needed help to lift her KTM690 in Panama, and Franzesca had to get a tractor to put her Dakar out of a bog hole.
And as for wading depth - well in Costa Rica, a river looked touch and go from both depth and current and as some locals were struggling just to walk across, we it took the long way round, almost all day to ride 120km to get to the other side on roads with a bridge. To those who actually ride their bikes, it too is a valid question.

Why are people so unkind? Or is that too weighty a question?
