    I didn't notice any change in power, but the whole reason I switched to the LV exhaust was to get rid of the heat generated from the Catalytic Converter. I can't say I notice much/any difference in that regard. At least I saved a few pounds, so it has that going for it.

    We get along very well together ! She knows she can't bring a lot of stuff and she's good with that too. She more or less hates shopping and loves biking.
    She doesn't work on the bikes but then again, I don't do most of the housework :-)

    If it chokes on full throttle you need a new exhaust. This one is most likely blocked internally. (they partly vibrate to bits inside)
    The seal on the clutch lever shaft is easy to change.
    Check oil level first as there might be too much oil in it. (Let engine run for a minute or so, kill engine, keep bike upright and check dipstick. )
    If the original gear lever is still on there take it off and replace it with a cheap as you can find steel one from a Yamaha XT500 or such. You need to bend it a little but at least the shaft won't break or bend when you drop the bike on the original lever.... ask me how I know)
    The rear brake possibly has air in it if you can't see any leaks. Put new brake fluid in on both front and rear brakes.

    Thank you. I got the same story from Max 3 months ago. I'm sure they're doing their best to guess as Max is a first rate outfit.

    Welcome!
    Do you get the same "throttle choking" symptoms in every gear when you wind it out? If so, it's likely the rev limiter and nothing wrong with your bike.

    I was thinking of sending them mine over the winter and having them make a few out of metal, like proper radiators, and get rid of this plastic shit. Thinking of fabricating a mount that will hold two separate radiators joined by plumbing, maybe two fans, a bit more like current 450's and such. But I ran into another issue today........:flush

    Having rebuilt my forks, solved my overheating issue, and test ridden the bike 50 miles I figured it was time to ride. I wanted to get over and re run the area which first caused a good portion of my latest issues. It is an area above Georgtown, CO off Guanella pass.

    I decided to run it from 285 to 70. Reverse from the fateful first trip. The road is now paved, and rather boring. But it does have a few off shoots that I have never really explored, and these did prove to be fun. Until the end.

    Heading out on 285 I was hyper aware of how the engine sounded and felt. I wanted to be sure I was not going to overheat, miss the chance to shut it down, and generally I was riding a bit nervous. I am my own mechanic and that can be dangerous.

    Turned from 285 to 62 ( Geneva Rd. ) and pointed down Bruno Gulch. Now I have been down this road many times, I just never found the end. I usually explored this in my 4wd or early spring and ran into massive unmelted snow drifts. Today the snow was melted and I found the end of the open rd. Not very awe inspiring I must say.

    I went further and headed out FSR 119 or Duck Creek. I have been here many times also, with the same result as Bruno Gulch. Snow season, so lots of snow shoeing and dog playing, but no real exploration. Today I wanted to see the pot of gold ant the end. And I did.

    That was what lay at the end of dry bumpy dirt road. My favorite. No one else about save a few quadtards and to jeeps. I was in search of the end as much as I sought solitude. It was a tough few days at work.

    This is what we all want. Am I right?

    I pushed my comfort level over several hundred feet of up and baby head loose double track. Still nervous, still thinking my work would fail, and I would be in overheating hell. This proved only to tax me more. The trail is what I should have focused on. I should have trusted my self and the help found in this forum.

    That was a collapsed or filled in shaft. Riddled with bees and perhaps the devil himself, as the sound of buzz was ever present and quite loud.
    I am also infatuated with the movie "There will be Blood" ,so living in Colorado and being surrounded by mining roads and history feeds this infatuation. I really geek out on the old structures left about.

    In the end the fuel pump failed me. I spent the day wondering about the excessive fuel smell. It was noticeable only upon stopping. I assumed the cause was the exceptional gas cap BMW engineered for our bike. I was wrong. A few hours of pushing, several cross words, and a burning desire for a cold beer, and I was able to coast down the pavement towards 285. I was in search of a safe place to store the bike until a proper rescue could be mounted. I stopped in at the Jerky stand hoping for salvation.

    Alas, it was unmanned. I gathered my wits and strolled about until Mac came up on his quad. I asked him if I could have a safe place to stash my bike. He was extremely helpful and gathered me up a lock and chains. We stashed the bike and secured it, while chit chatting about how people have changed and no longer are as helpful as they need be. I offered him cash, he steadfastly refused.

    My faith in humanity a bit restored. He was a bit sad about not being able to drive me back to my home, his wife had the car at work. I told him no worries, I would try my luck at hitching.

    I walked a few miles, in 90+ degree heat, in ATGATT - minus the helmet. Hoping that people would see me as a motorcyclist down and out instead of a hooligan. As luck would have it three sheriffs passed me and did not stop, but a few young guys from Florida saved me. They too, would not accept my gratitude in the form of cash. Rather we chatted and swapped stories. They dropped me in front of my door.

    It would seem I have really good bad luck!

    Now to swap out the fuel pump again. :baldy

    JJ I guess you're making progress! Nice riding I'm headed up that way next week to get to West Fest in Gunnison on the 4th. If anybody else is in the area it would be great to meet someone there and do some cool rides together. So you've already replaced your fuel pump once? So how exactly did you fix your radiator issue? Did I miss your explanation?

    My brake light is on brightly when I pull the front brake lever but when I mash the rear brake lever it is on dimly unless I really stomp on it. Been this way for at least a year now. I guess it is a hydraulic brake switch but I'm not sure how it really works, does it provide a resistor with the resistance less the higher the pressure is or what? The electrical connection goes over near the brake fluid reservoir but not sure where it goes exactly. The brake light really is sensitive and varies in brightness along with the pressure, it is not just on or off.

    I think it is item #15 in the picture below, and I think it physically connects to the top of the cylinder below but that is not shown:

    So how would one troubleshoot this? Is this a common problem others have? I don't want to have to depend on using the front brake always like when stopped and using my hands in traffic for something else.

    The radiator cracks were re filled with JB plastic weld. The cracks existed in the mounting area for the overflow res. Too many naps I guess. So I filled them with three layers of plastic weld. Cure time of 48 hours each. I then sought the advice here and replaced my thermostat. This will be my second fuel pump. The OEM one lasted 45,000 miles. I placed an aftermarket one ( $89 ) in last year after finding many many issues. It failed me today.

    Also, my Challenge turned 50,000 miles on the ride today.

    FYI. A multiple mile push of an X CHallenge is to be avoided. Especially in moto boots.

    Re. Fuel smell: How could you have been smelling fuel ? If you had the pump out before you might have overlooked a connection somewhere ?

    It should be on or off so a continuity/resistance test will work, it should read no resistance when made. Double check the wiring, you could have an abrasion causing some current to go to ground on the subframe. On the Challenge, you will have to pull the aft cowling to get to the connector to test while stepping on the brake from the green/red stripe wire to ground to see the voltage levels. Compare that level with the voltage you see from pulling the front brake. That should eliminate some of the wire run.

    If it points to the switch, I would drain the fluid, pull the switch and work it, it may have a bit of grit keeping it from making good contact.

    I should mention...
    I purchased a hitch mount moto carrier from harbor freight. Despite all the warnings against this. They gave me a floor model for $45. I only plan on using it for rescue missions and as a last resort. I hope it goes well. If not, plan on a few curse words tomorrow. :photog

    I had to completely rig my re assembly of the fuel pump electrics. One of the wires in the plug pulled out and there is literally no replacement piece. I just put a hole in the top of the assembly and ran the wire in direct, rather than in the connector.

    The top side of the black wire ( bottom ) pulled out and I could not solder or replace the connector. So I made a hole in the unit and sealed it, soldered a direct connection and it held until today.

    I must also note that ALL of the wires inside the fuel assembly ( read the ones in petrol, soaked ) had exposed wires from rubbing against the zip ties. Sorta scary.
