Well, no. I was confused re: the Montana reference. Was wondering what was "funny and sad" about the Montana?

Given his sig line, he can use any name he damn well wishes in my book. :thumb

Tested some more regarding custom routes.

A 100 custom routes seems to be the maximum that can be shown in Trip planner, tested to send 110 routes and 100 shows up after import.

But you can of course have "unlimited" number of routes in the memory or on the memory card and import when you need them.

Also tested maximum number of via/shaping points in a route and it seems to be around 130 (with a total of about 550 points in a route).

One of your prior posts mentioned "routes" and "trips" as though they were different things. And a maximum of 3750 points. Is the Nav V doing something like combining multiple routes into a "trip" and how does your discovered limit of 130 figure into the 3750 number?

Yes, but I haven't started to investigate trips yet.

My Motorcycle is a neat function, I spend a lot of time with the device on that page even if it is hard to read all the data when set to 16 segments.

I found a Maptheme folder on the Nav V that contains xml-files.

All of the Mapthemes has a corresponding xml-file in there, I copied one and changed it a bit to see how it works.

You can change the colors of all of the items on the map and change thickness of roads and lines, so there is a possibility to make a really high contrast map.

Usually you can do this with typ-files in MapSource/BaseCamp, but this way could be easier.

    Just a quick test:

Also the Dashboards has corresponding xml files, but haven't tested anything there yet.

One boring thing is that all waypoints that you send from BaseCamp gets a heart symbol, I haven't found a way to make the Nav V display the correct symbol that you send.

Cool that they have exposed the TYP file so you can easily edit it. But, not supporting the Garmin Standard Symbol set is bazaar -- uh, isn't that sweet how all of your Waypoints have a little Heart symbol. :puke1

One of the things that I think it would be very useful to know is what the new Nav V does when you push a route to it that exceeds its maximum number of points per route. Does it truncate the route? Or, does it do like the Zumo 350 does and make multiple routes out of it? Or, something else entirely?

If you have a route that you'd like me to test this on, you can email it to me at tim@lane6.us and i can give it a try this evening

Thats an interesting question, some of the routes I have sent has been divided into multiple routes, but some has not been imported at all with the error message "Route to long to be saved..".

I have not understood the logic yet.

I just made a route from a track and chopped it down to 3500 points. :lol3

It is now winging its way across the intertubes to you.

Well, it may have two thresholds. Up to a certain number of points, it may split it into multiple routes. Beyond a certain number, it may choke.

On importing the 3500 point route, it said that it could not import the route. When I cut it down to 2500 points, importing broke it up into 10 different trips.

Interesting. If I use Garmin's terminology, they seem to now be differentiating between a "route" and a "trip". Is that your perception, too? Is there some kind of way to link various routes into a single trip, or some such?

Another thing I found out today, the Tracker function only exists in the Android version of Garmin Smartphone Link, not in the ios version. To bad its a great function.
