Not a drastic update from the NAV-5 - sort of like the zumo 590 to the 595. The Owners Manual linked to in the "Downloads" is currently set to the NAV-5 Manual.

Interesting that now BMW (Garmin) claim that Trips can support only 125 Shaping Points between Via Points. That was the original claim for the NAV-5 but it now supports, as of v3.40, 150 Shaping Points between Via Points. This number seems to be 'flexible'. :hmmmmm

The display's circular polarisation filter (CPOL) minimises reflections and improves contrast, thereby ensuring optimal readability even during direct sunlight.

Good luck seeing anything with polarized sunglasses...

Has Garmin fixed the connection between Nav 5 and iPhone ver 10?

What "connection" issue are you referring to? My NAV5, v3.40, connects to my iPhone (v10.2.1) just fine.

I'll have to try again. Mine quit working when I first upgraded to 10. Both units are current

Just set paired it. Works fine. Might have been operator error.:-)

Often times after an update - iPhone or NAV5 - I delete Pairings and do them over. Doesn't take but a few seconds and I think it's worth the time.

    Hmmm, this is new:

    Music to your ears
When it comes to music for your trips, you're your own DJ. Thanks to Bluetooth technology and our new "Music Streaming" feature, you can listen to the tracks saved on your smartphone. Become your own film director, controlling compatible "Action Cams" directly from your navigator.

This is the same as the zumo 59x devices. The Media Player on the VI interfaces with the Music Library on your phone and controls play via the Bluetooth AVRCP (remote control) protocols. It passes the music through to the Bluetooth Headset paired with the NAV-VI.

I'd be interested to know if they enhanced the functions of the wonder wheel interface. There is so much more it could do it seems.

And also if the routing now allows you to join a route at any point seemlesssly (like the 278/378/etc)

    For example?

I suppose we'll have to wait to find out but I'd be surprised to see BMW(Garmin) move from using the Trip Planner software to the Route Planner software. Having said that, what's stopping you from joining your pre-planned route where you desire?

For example I would have the wheel scroll a cursor item by item, not screen by screen so that you can actually make a selection with the wheel itself without having to reach out to the touchscreen. Same thing for initiating navigation to saved points - why is that not available from the wheel alone the same way you can start navigation home? It's just basic stuff that could be so much better..

and I'd like to have an option to lock the wheel, i keep hitting it a changing my screen from map to the compass (which I have now learned to hate).

As much as I love the Multi-Controller for what it does do, I'd like to see BMW (Garmin) also implement Voice Control similar to Garmin's 'Drive Smart' feature so you could initiate WhereTo? actions - including access to your Saved (waypoints) Places - with a simple voice command.

Can anyone confirm/deny wether the currently available GPS prep on a 1200GS is compatible with the new Nav VI unit? Seems silly to get a new bike with the old Nav V setup at this point unless it is heavily discounted...

I think the answer is yes, but why don't you read the material at the link in the first post in this thread?

The info in the link didn't seem to provide any good answers. They don't specifically say it won't work either, and simply refer to "navigation preparation". I will have a chat with the dealer later today and see what they say :)

Will get as much info as I can. I'm going to the dealer to have a look at the new Rallye bike so hopefully he will be forthcoming with info on the Nav VI, it is after all a natural accessory for a new GS :)
