Looking to buy one of the Special Editions with low mileage, under 25K. What's a good price range assuming that the bike is in good shape and has been well maintained?

I think that all depends where yo are. Down her win Brazil you will pay premium price for a bike le that. In US will like 1/3 f the price

Dayren, recently someone bought a lo mileage 99 SE on here for under 5k I think. Here in Texas a mint condition and fully accessorized 98 Anniversary with about 7000 miles sold for around 6k couple weeks ago

Random guess but probably 5000 +/-. Regular high mileage 1100's are around 4-4500 in this region

Last May, I got my '99 SE with 27K on the clock. The trouble is that they don't stay low mileage very long when I have 'em. I cracked 40K miles this weekend:eek1.

I know I owe pics... I haven't dropped her yet. Went back to the stock pipe, and am still hobbled by factory luggage, but what can you do?

In June in South Dakota, I ran into a guy from Colo. that had another '99 SE. That means I've now seen three of the supposed 52 imported into the states:clap.

    Hey Vroum!

I'm reposting the image for anyone that's not able to see it
    [IMG]

This is the first I've ever seen or heard of an 1150 with this paint scheme but it may be a special version released in Europe or other region.

Hopefully someone will know - have you posted on UKGS'er? Someone there may know.

Interesting since it looks similar to the 99 silver/yellow SE except the yellow looks to be the stronger yellow seen on the 1150's and not the paler version on the 99SE. I'm suspecting it's a custom paint job, but will be fun to find out otherwise

LoneStar thank you for the information and your point of view on this case.:thumb Indeed I have been really curious to find out the story behind this and of course if this is the only one or if there are others out there. I really doubt it's a special edition but in any case it's worth checking any data available. In my frank opinion it was either pre-ordered that way (to have the graphics of 99SE) from the factory or it's a custom paint job (the stickers may give us the answer). The Yellow is indeed stronger (closer or exact like the mandarin yellow one).

Sent same post to UKGSer but again I had problem on publishing the photo so just shared the link. Let's see what we will get from there.

    Dear All,

I just bought a 1999 yellow/silver R1100GS 'Special Edition' on eBAY. I paid $2,950 for this 107,000 mile machine. I've always wanted the 'big' BMW. I know it is heavy, old school and has a few miles, but it came at a price that allows me to stay happily married. The bike is in California and I'm having it shipped to northern Wisconsin. It should be here in a couple of weeks. I'm like a kid at Christmas waiting for the machine. I'll post photos when it arrives.

In the meantime I ride the gravel in NE Wisconsin and Upper Michigan on a couple of F650GSs. I need the second bike for my bike-less brothers and Harley friends.

That was Charlie's bike, wasn't it?

I've never seen it in person, but have heard about it. You probably have the highest mile, best maintained /SE on the planet:clap, I hope it works for you.

If I'd know it was up on ebay, you wouldn't have gotten it so cheap...

Yes it was Charlie's bike. And now here it is, just in time for the holidays .... my new to me 1999 R1100GS SE. It needs a little love. I am the right owner for this bike. I'll get it polished and in shape. I already have the gravel back roads of Northern Ontario on the brain.

Nice score Spud! That price was a steal! No matter the miles.

Best bike, best year, best color.

That thing is set up for some travelling. Get ya some TT hard parts for the pegs and the steering stops.

Keep us up to date on the work you do to it.

Should I stay with the amber LEDs and link them to my turn signals or go steady on super bright white 10mm's?
