I don't ride one, but I think they are gorgeous. Not many of them around, from what I can tell. Would LOVE to pick one up "just because".

Used to own one. It's a sweet bike in more ways than one.

Never owned one, but I test rode a used one a few months back, and I thought it was a fantastic bike - I honestly wasn't expecting much, and I came away impressed enough that I want one.

such a pretty machine, I really really wanted to own one. My back and my neck however said no for any distance further than around the block.

I've had one for several years now and it's my favorite sporty bike of all time. Fits me great and, with the ohlins suspension set correctly, it handles fantastically. Light weight and plenty of power. Not many of them sold.

Yes, I had a Honda CBR1000 just before I got the R12S and I like the BMW better. I can ride it faster than the Honda.

I'm pretty new over there, but no question it's a bit of a tight clique. Great technical knowledge though. I'm surprised at how much performance-modding is discussed over there, which is pretty unusual for BMW owners.

I'm curious to know how many R1200S models were sold in the US. Anybody know ?

I'm 185cm and there's plenty of room for me, I suppose it would be no problem for you to "fit in"... Have a test ride if you can. IMO the bike is designed for taller guys, I usually find myself sitting closer to tank than necessary (never happened with my previous bikes).

And let's add a pic of my yellow wonder:

just got mine last week. SUPER comfortable which has surprised me more than anything being 6'1. the ohlins are nice, still setting them up but right out of the gate they're very good....I'll speculate at a later time as to why I think they never sold very well.

runs a bit hotter/idle rougher than the other boxers i'm used to(but more compression and larger throttle bodies), great handling, fantastic brakes. offered up just one year here in the US so not many around. they put about 110hp to the wheel on tougher dynos, the computer will adapt to higher 99 octane for track days but will use their anti knock for normal pump gas.

any they DO look fantastic, more classic lines than the other BMW models of this era, and the dual kidney beans in the front grill stolen from the cars aren't repeated nearly as well on any other bikes as they are on this one.
