Thanks to everybody for letting me tag along yesterday. That is one of the best rides I've had this year. I was thinking about draining the gas out of the old 2 smoke to put away for the winter but, I had so much fun on the old girl I think I may have to go out again next weekend and the weekend after that etc... Special thanks to Ryan for being our tour guide on yesterdays excursion. Hemmingway Butte is a fantastic place to ride. Of course the perferct weather and perfect trail conditions didn't hurt either. :D :D

I also was impressed with the everyone on the DS bikes out there. I kept thinking how I was glad I wasn't on the KLR in all the whoops and sand and you guys just kept on following without to much complaint. I need to get the KLR out there after I get my nerf bars on so I don't have to worry as much about dropping the BGP ( Big Green Pig ). After seeing you guys riding I'm inspired to get out there on the KLR.

Thanks again for a great ride and it was nice to meet all of you as well.

    Hey Paul,

Get some nerf bars, and lever protectors on that Pig, and we'll take it out there!

This Spring on the pig, in the sand at Hemmingway:

:D :D :D It was a great ride, RWC didn't cause any land closures yesterday. Appreciated his services as a tour guide. Good to meet more area riders.

:thumb to the DRZ. Did what I needed it to do.

I'm up for another ride, Hemingway or Pickle Butte, just not this next weekend. Gotta stay home and accomplish something SWMBO considers useful.:D

BTW HN, You're welcome to ride the DRZ when we meet up again.

    Hey All,

Maybe this weekend, we should do an endurance ride, and ride from Hemmingway, to Rabbit, to Fossil, and back. That's likely 30-40 miles of whoopdies each way. :clap

Granted, I'm guranteed to get us 'lost' at least once during the ride...

In fact, the whole ride would be a matter of being consistently lost, and working your way to a general area.

Or, we could do Hemmingway to Slate Mt to Silver City, like Heath and I did last month (that's a great ride). That's an all day kind of ride.

    Hey Guys,

I bought Firefighter Joe's Wee Strom from him about a month ago. I rode up to the snow line on Sunday.

I think you guys are to FAST for me to hang with till I get use to the bike. I really do like it but DON'T want the bike to take NAP on me to soon.

Hope to get to meet some of you in the near future.

    Les in Boise.

But, as Phil has learned, the Strom has it's limits when it comes to the places we like to get to. :nod

    10/27/07 Ride

I'm looking at taking a group of guys out this weekend, if anyone is interested.

We'll start at Hemmingway, and take moderate double and single track back to the road to Reynolds. From there, those not comfortable with deep sand can take the road, and meet those of use who will be running in the creek bed at Black Mt. Rd.

We'll take Black Mt. Rd. (which is Jeep trail) to Silver City.

Those who need to bail at Silver City (for lack of energy of lack of time), can hit the highway back to Hemmingway. Rest of us will 'connect the dots' on single and double track back to Hemminway from Silver City road - these trails get gnarly at times.

To do this trip in it's entirety, you'll need 6-8 hours, and a fuel range of 80 miles. So... plan ahead, and bring fuel if you need it.

I recommend bringing at least a front tube for your bike (which can be used as a rear in an emergency). I also highly recommend you bring a GPS, so that if you get seperated from the group (which rarely happens), you know your way back in an emergency. I'll pack the equipment for changing the tire - but you need to have the tube. I'll also pack a 1st aid kit. Bring water if you need it.

This will not be big bike friendly. A 650 single is as large as I'd recommend (A KLR would feel heavy, but can do it pending a competent rider). I'll be on my XT550 (115 lbs lighter than my KLR). That being said, a good 990 rider could do it - that's your call to make. A V-Strom will be miserable.

I'd like to do this on Saturday, but am flexible to Sunday if needed.

Chime in if you'd like to go.

Disclaimer - I'm 100% certain that we'll get lost at least once during this ride. This will be a figure-it-out-as-you-go ride. If you're not okay with that, don't go.:nod I've ridden a lot in this area - but that are dozens of different ways to connect the trails, and lots of ways to get of course.:thumb

I would love to go. My Xl has a 140 mile range so no problem. IF you feel this ride is beyond my capability please say so. I know, You know my level and would NEVER lead me in the gates of Hell. (Because you know YOU will have to drag my dumb ass out!!)

My time limit is approx Dawn till Dusk.

Rock on. Old bikes and Old Riders rule!!:lol3
