West of San Antone on 90, Sammys in Castroville has good breakfast. This is one of my favorite small towns in Texas. This is where I would move to if I was lucky enough to escape Michigan in the winters.

A little closer to ya is Sisters on Lake Whitney. I think they do a good job with breakfast but if you are looking for fancy......you won't find it.

I can recommend two places but you are gonna hafta ride a little.

Oak Ridge Marina located just South of the US 154 bridge over Lake Fork. Very good , fresh tasting breakfast food. Had a Tex Mex Skillet Breakfast Yesterday that was great. They make hashbrowns that are not greasy.

If headed West on I20 try the Smokestack restaurant in Therber. It's awesome! When leaving Therber fool around on some of the back roads and try and be in Strawn around noon. Stop in at Mary's for a Chicken Fried Steak. Best in Texas bar none.
You will then be able to ride back to Dallas with a full belly and a smile on your face!

I ate breakfast at some old farm house on the water's edge in, eh, I'm pretty sure the Carmel area. Was pretty good.

Carmel, of course, is gorgeous, but YE GODS the cost of living there is eye-watering.

+1 on the Old West Cafe. My GF and I are in Denton one weekend a month and enjoy eating here. This place can get busy.

We eat at the Snooty Pig in Argyle sometimes too.....

We stopped in at Taqueria Los Agaves on Hwy84 in Gatesville Sunday mornin for breakfast. I've eaten there many times & always had great food. Very reasonable prices too. Just an unassuming local place with good food.

    11-23-12 UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE
The restaurant was sold a while back & I can NO LONGER RECOMMEND THEM. I have been there several times since the sale & only the first time right after the sale was the same. Both other times the food was different tasting & the portions were smaller (+the prices went higher!!) I also found that the menus did not have correct pricing when paying for a breakfast that used to cost under $5...NEW PRICE WAS OVER $7 !!!! The explanation both times was that the new menus were being printed. (this over a 2 month time frame between visits!!!) THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE BUSINESS PRACTICE FROM A RESTAURANT OWNER.

I URGE ANYONE WITH SIMILAR "The menu is being updated" EXPERIENCES TO LET OTHERS KNO SO THOSE BUSINESSES CAN BE AVOIDED.

The best breakfast restaurant near DFW area is the Magnolia Pancake House, in San Antonio...bar none.
