Looks like the stars have aligned and I have 12 days off and all plans withs kids and others have fallen apart. Bike has fresh oil and decent tyres.

Can anybody tell me generally what current road conditions are like for this trip? Its been pretty wet but there doesnt appear to be any road closures at the moment.

    Brisbane Gayndah
    Gayndah Alpha
    Alpha Cloncurry
Cloncurry to Doomadgee (probably just over the border on Savannah way)
    Doomadgee Katherine
    Katherine Darwin

    Suggestions welcome.

Also where to get tyres for a KTM 625 SXC in Darwin?

Gayndah to Rocky (well, Westwood) should be ok. I think it held up pretty well this flood. I haven't heard of the roads still being closed.

There was a lot of damage out on the western highway this flood and last. I haven't been out that way for more than a year, and only went to Blackwater anyway, but there were plenty of roadworks from the last flood!

There will definitely be some road works out near Neerkol (Here's why), but I can't remember if it is on the Rocky side of Westwood or not.

Google Maps recommends heading out past Roma and through to Charleville that way. Looks marginally shorter (120ish km) than coming up through Gayndah.

EDIT: Google also says going up to Doomagee takes it to 4160km. It take you from Cloncurry up to Doomagee, then down onto the Sturt highway and out to Alice, then back up to Katherine. Is there a road straight to Katherine from Doomagee??

    Good luck and have fun!

Will leave tomorrow, nothing like leaving it till the last minute. will pack and try and get away by lunch, so small day first up, then keep moving. Its a shame cause i would enjoy the company. I have to be back by the 9th April.

I would be planning a different route then up the Savannah, there has been some decent rain of late.

This part of the Savannah is usually closed until at least late April or early May.

Agree with obj and podge. There is a fair bit of rain up there at the moment, doubt that way would be open. Check out the BOM site and radar, shows decent rain from Bourketown to Roper Bar.
