How is the wind noise?

There is only clean wind noise, no buffeting. I'll take some more pics this weekend from different angles, not home atm. My 15 y/o son thinks it looks cool now, not like an old mans bike
I should include that I added 1/2 inch spacers as well. LOVE my airflow!!

I just read thru this entire thread and most of the others regarding windscreens going back to 2014. A daunting task indeed.
Have to chuckle as I saw several inmates who installed a new screen in search of smooth air and reported it to be considerable better than the stock screen. A couple of weeks later they would update the report to say: "well maybe it's just a tad better I think." Then about a month later I would see the new screen up for sale.
That being said my search for smooth air continues although I am beginning to feel that no such animal (smooth air screen) exists for our steed. Today I went back to a setup I had tried before and found it to be pretty darn good.
I removed the upturned lip on the stock 1190S screen a couple of months ago which seemed to help some. I have been running it with about a 5/8 inch extension. Today I re installed the 2 inch extensions and noticed a decent improvement over the shorter extensions. The improvement is thru the full adjustment range, high and low. One thing that is definitely better is all the room you now have to clean off the bugs on both sides. Thinking I will stay with this setup as my default best for now. Here are several pics of how it looks. Guess one could say I have employed the "Madstad Principle" with the 2 inch extensions.
Can really tell the turbulence from the mirrors! it hits me in the face if I put my shield up when I ride I can follow the air directly to the outside of those mirrors, without that air the windscreen visor seems to go above my head. Rottweiller mirrors are just SO expensive though and I am not one to usually say that
I was think the same thing until I took off the windscreen and went for a ride. The airflow was completely smooth/laminar with zero buffeting. Then I moved my hand to the sides to find the turbulence from the mirrors. It was well to the sides of my helmet and not a factor.
I did find some buffeting/turbulence but only when I moved my head/helmet way down by the tank. The burble was coming off the mask/bezzle probably around belly button height. Chest, shoulders, and head completely in the clear smooth air.
Take off your screen and give it a try. No cost involved. Think you will be amazed.

Went on to capture the #1 plate that year. Ah to be young again.
Fitted the Puig sport screen for recent tour and no buffeting just the normal naked wind noise. Thought it was an improvement over stock. Have always thought small was best and I am 6ft .
Thanks for the information you posted. I'm 6'2" wearing a Schuberth E1 and have been working on my screen issues as well. I also have been messing with extending the screen away from the mask. I'm at 1" spacers now with a stock R screen that I cut the lip off of and an MRA X-Creen on top. Seems to get better each time I move it farther out. I think I'm gonna try longer spacers as you did.
Just a couple questions for you-
What did you use for your spacers?

I think that buffeting on the R screen comes from the upper part that is bent.
The Puig sport is straight and hence was thinking will make the difference.

I've had my '16 1190A for about 10 days. Like a lot of people I experienced the dreaded buffeting. I ordered the "R" screen, just got it today, and haven't tried it yet, but...
I had been wanting a new helmet, and I was in Cycle Gear the other day and they had the new Shoei RF-SR. I picked one up with the Transitions lens. Long story short, the buffeting with the standard screen is almost totally gone. I don't even really need to try a new screen or anything else. I know these things are complicated, and that my solution will not work for everyone, but I'm just throwing it out there. I was using an HJC RPHA ST, btw.
I'm am still curious what effect the "R" screen will have now, but I may not get a chance to ride for a while.
First longer ride after the latest windscreen mod. The report is earlier on this page (14).
Did 143 miles mostly on mountain roads. Speeds ranging from 15 to 100+. Pretty darn happy with this setup. Rode the entire day with my shield open one notch. It will now stay open up to 100 mph before the wind shuts it. With the shorter extensions it would snap shut around 60 mph.
Think I am now done screwing around with the windscreen fix attempts.

I am right at 5' 10" on a good day standing.

Have been following this thread for awhile. A couple weeks ago we rented a few different bikes all with different screens (Aprilia Caponord, BMR RTW 1200, Triumph Trophy and even a BMW R1200R) and none had buffeting issues. The closest bike to the 1190 is the Caponard and the screen was fabulous. I've been following Hawkerjet's mods and thinking about doing the same "lipectomy". Also found myself interested in the comments about the Puig, not to mention the looks so I bought one today. Should have it next week and will back to back test the OEM to the Puig racing screen. More to follow.
