I was going to post this in the NFL thread, but fuck it. Bum deserved his own. Sad day. I wasnt a huge Oiler fan, but I always rooted for them against the Steelers (fucking Pastorini). Phillips only coached there for 5 years before moving onto the Saints. Seemed longer. I got to visist the Astrodome in the 80's and Bum was who I associated it with. RIP

A real character. He ruined Earl Campbell, but Campbell bought into it completely. If those Houston teams had had a QB, they'd have been a serious contender.

    RIP Bum.

(when asked about Oilers RB Earl Campbell's inability to finish a one-mile run in training camp) "When it's first and a mile, I won't give it to him."

I wish bum had stuck around for a while longer so he could piss on bud adams grave. Houston had some good teams under bum, but overall bud was as detrimental, maybe even more than jerry jones is to the teams they own.. Bud fired bum after the second playoff loss to pittsburg, who went on to win superbowls both times.

Not sure how he stacks up against jeff fisher, but Bud had a habit of hiring
dipshit yes men, and relying on a couple bad years to draft high picks.
