Maybe I'm just allergic to Lobster piss
Maybe you shouldn't leave yer tent unzipped?
Well, there is some discussion in the Boulder Junction area circulating among the local population about some guys from Iowa that were part of the rally that were "raising holy hell".
I thought I would share this post from earlier today to let people know about some of the things we are working on in the area of the rally and why it is important not to piss off local people or local governments. We are up for a rare revision of the Master Plan for the state forest we do much of our riding in. Our goal has been to grow our opportunities there with an eye toward getting a single track motorcycle trail on the forest property. We have also been working hard to increase (or at least maintain) our dual sport access to the primitive forest roads that many enjoy riding. I personally have been involved in this effort in this area for many years. We now have a comment period open where people can express their opinions about motorized recreation on the forest property. We also have a local open house in that area coming up later this month where people can express their opinions. The last thing any of us want or need to suffer is local people coming in with negative anecdotes that support their arguments against motorized recreation. That is why it is important that people don't exhibit behavior that will feed the anti fire. Some think they are anonymous when they pull crap, but the needless damage to our program is the same.
The draft amendment to the Master Plan for the Northern Highland American Legion State Forest came out today. I have been on the phone with a couple of officials about some concerns I have for off-highway motorcyclists. Much of the language looks fine, but we need to take a better approach for the potential for a single track motorcycle trail in the forest some time in the future. We scheduled a meeting to address OHM concerns and hopefully we will be able to get it all worked out.
The comment period is Aug 17 to Sep 17. After I meet with the DNR, I'll offer some information here about submitting comments to the DNR about the plan. The amendment and related maps can be found on the web page below. There is also a link to submit comments that we can get to once I get some things sorted out in the meeting.
You will note that they talk about preferred dual sport routes and possibly marking dual sport routes in the forest. They use my NHAL GPS track that many of you have ridden many times as an example.
That said, it would be a good idea for the rally goers to submit comments to the DNR in a polite and professional manner concerning OHM/DS in the NHAL. Please don't attack any other user groups as it goes against us in the end.
You will want to tell them:
-that you support the changes that allow OHM use on any ATV trails that come into being in the forest and that you would oppose being excluded from those trails. (box 1)
-you oppose any language that might somehow restrict the development of a single track motorcycle trail. (box 2)
-that you would like to see a single track motorcycle trail system developed on the property that would be available for limited use motorcycles as well as dual sports. (box 3)
-how you just spent X days riding GPS guided paths on primitive forest roads, how much you enjoyed it, and how important this opportunity is for you. You will want to add that the riding opportunities contributed to your traveling to this area on vacation. (box 4)
Thanks in advance for contributing in a positive and meaningful way. Perhaps people could put a "like" on this post after they submit their comments so we can see how many people responded.
Thank you for supporting our recreational interest.
Done and thank you so much for all your efforts Bryan!
^^^ X-2 Thanks Bryan
It wasn't me pig jockey will vouch for me
It was these 3 hellions. Except they're chicks, and not from Iowa...
Needs more wine.
Man, that cackling went on for a long time.
I heard they ended up with enough eggs for breakfast.
Since the girls don't hang out in here I'm confident they would say.....
Just to help you understand how things work in the recreation world, the trail safety council for Vilas County (made up of various user groups) met this week. The Recreation Deputy Sheriff reported on the dual sport vs. truck accident (even though it was a highway accident). This led to some discussion about dual sporters.
I thought it was best to mention this to help inculcate a sense of accountability for everything we do or that happens. Things don't just go away once we leave.
Yep that's the one. Also explains the skid marks. Glad no one was injured. Thanks for the link.
Come on people we need to get way more interest in this questionnaire. If you like off road riding PLEASE take a few moments and answer the four questions.
