Cant seem to work out how to post pics
upload them to a online pic site like photobucket or facebook or smugmug or similar .. then copy and past the ing link
Come on Sean, you know all XRR's look the same except for Diggers. It'll be red with two wheels and a kick starter.
Now as for a ride, we should be able to get a few of us organised for at least a day trip somewhere. I could show you the local loop around Clohesy River - Davies Creek - Tinaroo area. Not a bad day depending on one shitty hill.......
if its stock i still like em .. if its got mods i like em better
i aint seen em all yet ..... i got a shit load of em on my pc .. sort of a xrr gagel
Sounds good, How many kms is the loop? Ive only got the stock tank
Good question, never actually measured it but fuel normally isn't an issue. Servo at Koah and Emerald Creek if need be.
What sort of riding ability though? It's nothing to challenging except for a hill or two, in the wet it's a bit slippery in places.
I get about 160ks a tank, as for riding ability I go alright, Ive been riding for years but just getting back into it after someone stole my other 05 XRR
Planning any mods to the XRL? I see those extra wings on the tank have gone already.
I will set it up just like my 94 & 00 even down to the kickstart but will put extra high risers on for the bars as well, when I ruptured my Kidney up at the OCR is was terrible up on the pegs for 165klms but I had to keep the vibration away from the abdomen.
Hi Folks, I'm Brett , aka, Chewy,I've half moved to Cairns, got the important things here but keen to get out and see some of the sights around this neck o the woods. I,m here till the new year ,so if anyone is able to show me around a couple good tracks over the next couple weeks ..... I'm keen. Then i gotta go back and finish my house in Delaide. Any one suggest a good place to buy tyres ? Any 1 with a XT660Z tried a few different tyres to now what works best here. Hope to catch a few of you soon otherwise toward the end of Jan. Chow 4 now.
The DSMRA guys are pretty active in and around Cairns and a good buch of blokes.
Scroll down here to find Jim's contact info. Ask him if he's got a Berg yet, he wanted one badly after he rode my FE650.
Hey guys - return to Aus time
heading over in a month and considering getting a sat phone. Globalstar 1600 are cheap $200 or so and there is one kicking around for even less.
I understand their satellites are being upgraded so there are some coverage gaps
Anyone have any experience with these phones and coverage
Looking at the Qualcomm 1600 tri-mode. Heavy clunk but I don't really care as I have a top case to shove it in tho I suppose a pocket might be smarter.
Any suggested coverage plans - this is all new to me.
If you stick with the Iridium system you will suffer less dropouts and disconnects. Slightly more expensive, but IMHO a lot more reliable.
But what about the cost of the phone?
It's a $1000 for most and $650-800 used and that's in North America.
I don't want this to chit chat - only for emergency and minor contact - like ETA - ( there is a 35 character freebie )
A $200 clunker I can buy monthly time on makes way more sense and that's $200 new.
Hell that's not much more than a basic tracker like Spot and I don't have to do an all or nothing like an EPIRB.
Pulled the trigger on a unused 1600 for $180.
Figure it's good long term here or in Australia and you can hook it to a computer for email which could come in handy.
Now have to sort the rates.
Useful where ever we go
anyone with provider suggestions? need open or prepaid only ...cheeeeeeeeap
Yeah, I have Macdoc. I used to use the same phone in the Northern Territory in some very Isolated parts of the Top End as a Tour guide. Never had any problems with coverage when hiking in Gorges etc. There's a little pain in the arse delay with the transmission. I am pretty sure ours were iridium network which is global coverage and calls were about $1.00 per minute, so resonably expensive but ideal for those emergency calls or I am OK calls that can be quick. The handset was the same as the one in your photo.
Would have to be Globalstar but that's about correct on the price. $1.07 they tell me for Aussie rates but for 9 months here it's $40 a month unlimited talk and data on a special deal just now so that's good as even in North America there are lots of dead zones for cell and roaming charges are a killer.
Can't wait to get there....riding season definitely over here
Anyone keen for a ride possibly next Friday the 11th of January?
