I just completed my first ever track day at Calif. Speedway on the AMA course on my KTM 990 Adventure. It was great even though it was a little hot. I rode with Fastrack Riders Association. You have to do the novice school if you've never done this before. They give you basic info to get you up to speed safely. All but the first session is done in the slow rider group. Some guys, and girls, are not that slow so you have to get used to not having any mirrors and people zooming by. You get lots of track time. I did 9 20 minuet sessions which ended up being 114 miles. I could have done one more but I just couldn't do it:knary . I ended up showing 120 mph on GPS. It's a fast track but very safe since if you mess up there is ample hard runoff in most spots. I tried several:D . I was on the biggest/heaviest bike but I was far from the slowest rider so I showed some people that adventure bikes are still pretty quick :D . Maybe best of all I got this great picture:

It was fun and I'd recommend it as I plan on doing it again.

    The picture or the trackday?
    Picture 11X14 $35
    Trackday for Cal Speedway $269
    Novice School $115
    Ktm Motard leather suit $450

    Time had at the track.....Priceless:D

Other tracks are less money, but may not be as much fun or safe for a newbie. http://www.fastrackriders.com/prices.html

    Awesome :thumb

I bet it was very humbling for some of the other riders to get schooled by a guy on an adventure bike !

Did you ride out to the track, do the track day and then ride home as well? That would be a long tiring day... particularly since it has been hot as arse around these here parts :eek1

What do you have to do to the bike to prep it for the track?

Hardly looks like you did any prepping at all. Just notice the mirrors gone and the head light taped. Luggage racks still on!

    Great job!

    Congrats and nice picture.

Did a trackday at Buttonwillow and there were like 8 riders from Fresno, I could not believe what I was seeing, all of them were on the B group riding big adventure bikes, no knobs though.

I carried the bike out in the back of my Van. You have to tape off all the lights and speedo, and remove the fuse for the headlight and tail light, and remove the mirrors. Other than that nothing. Need good tires. By August they will require the drain plug saftywired. So not really that much to do, but more than I'd want to do at the track and then ride home.

Some people were trying hard and going quick, some trying hard but not going quick, and some just having fun on the straight stuff but not in the turns. I thought that it would be through the turns that the sport bikes would kill me, but for the most part it was on the straights that they beat me. I guess I was just trying harder through the turns than most. But I was in the slowest group so that may be why I seemed to be quick. But it was fun passing people with my school vest on and on my adventure bike:clap .

They have a date each month but I have a friend who wants to do it November 1st so that looks like my next time. We should get a bunch of adventure bikes out there then. We'd put on quite a show:D .
