Although I have no answers for the 88xr I do feel re-enforced about mods.
The reason I bought honda is longevity. Sure hop ups make things go faster but also confuse the issue when there is something wrong.
I have many, many miles/hours on the 82 500 and 92 600 all without any fussing.
Just sits there ready to ride...

    Mods, hop ups ect =:tough

stock + cared for = :thumb

As well, I get the impression that Christian really takes his bike to the limits while riding. I have not found the stock bike to be holding me back. In fact, it's what has kept me from going overboard. Remember I come from a long history of old machines that can't do what an XR can...
So having 600 power, long travel and disc brakes is the tits!

    Wish I could help...
But I'm afraid you know more what to do than me...

    Hey Mutant,

There's no mention about the FET's current rating.

Your wiring dio looks to be the same as in my install guide.

I had the same problem with mine when the temperatures dropped to around 0. Cold start was do-able, hot start a crisis..

What I did was close the fuel to off. grab the manual decompressor, hold the killswitch and kick it a couple of tims (6~10) then open fuel to ON again. and try to kick it.. worked for me. Problem disappeared after the temperatures got milder..

I'm not surprised by that as I rarely see such info published on these things. Thanks a bunch for checking. I was just curious if it would handle different bulb(s) with higher wattage requirements. I have an idea on what components might be inside the FET box, but since they cannot be replaced anymore, I won't be opening mine up to find out:D

What is it with Supertrap mufflers?

Everybody seems to love them, I haven't seen an American bike without one for a very long time...

It appears to me, that amongst other things,, they cleverly divert some of the hot exhaust gasses directly on to
our expensive plastic bits, and either cover them in black soot, or melt them into an unrecognisable sculpture.

Maybe I am just an old bushie and ex-ringer, but I can't see for the life of me why one would want to purposely, albeit unintentionally destroy or damage one's bike......:confused

    thanks,

thats pretty much the honda drill...when hot do de flood it and get some clean air in you hold the throttle wot, kill switch and decomp and cycle through about 10-15 times

used to work like a charm

however having put the hrc cam im assuming it has thrown even my pilot circuit off...

I too thought kikcback was a rich issue...my plug does look darker after doing the idle adjustment before shutdown...

    in any case thanks guys

just more tinkering to do huh?

    cheers

the sound was one reason...they also were the only ones who made a pipe for the dual header xr´s... like you though I do not like the discs and the way they soot up the whole rear end, plus they are loud! so I havent bought one for my 88 despite the fact that it would work

most recently mental guru posted a link to the trioval mufflers for our years made in italy...waiting on some reviews to see what they are like:D

    anywhoo

so I had a 60 in there not a 62! geeze...put in a 62 since I dont have a leaner pilot jet and it starts better...

    im at 1.5 tuns out...

so would a lean condition cause a no start more so than a rich pilot jet? just wondering

I got 1 kickback but thats a lot less than before

restarted 3 times after that using the drill and she started

oh how interesting this can be! jjajajajaja:rofl

Jeez, Christian. You're doing an awesome job of "if it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is!" :rofl
On a side note, I doubt if a rich pilot was preventing you from starting. Lean is usually the problem! I'm most of the way through sorting my FCR, so I'm in a carbie frame of mind right now.

Have you seen the "Staintune" that came on the Aussie 6's? Very nice piece, nice note with or without baffle.

BTW, that phone call last month only cast me $13 :rofl gotta love Telstra! :D

On that lean = problem note, isnt that the same reason why the pig will break your leg if you open the throttle while kicking it over? as in, more air = lean = cast for zeh leg?

Good point. Have you seen this eyebrow thingie? Use it to deflect the exhaust gas away from the plastic. Google Supertrapp deflector to find out more.

There is also Musket Mufflers in New Zealand. They have the full range of reproduction factory mufflers to suit our Hondas and others.

I have one on my XL6. It is a very well constructed and solid muffler, bolts up to the original mounting points.

    Linky...

It works marginally OK. I had one and it still allowed some sooting on fender:eek1 I finally removed my Supertrapp and went with a nice DG silencer that has a pretty mean growl to it. NOT as loud as my Supertrapp even after it was repacked. I do not have the OEM dual header any longer so the options for replacement silencers are more plentiful.

    ON THAT NOTE..........................

    wtf is going on now

so I went to test ride my oem carb...

first WOT run with plug already in the bike top speed 84mph. The plug came out looking perfect though nice and light tan:confused:confused

during ride down to the flats where I test my bike at sea level I notice my idle has a tendency to hang so Im thinking still lean and I take not of this

after first wot run I decide to adjust idle too...out a half turn so Im at 2 turns out...bike restarts nicely twice this way

second WOT run I decide to put the new dpr8 plug in for a real plug chop this with the 152 main. and HOLY SHIT IS IT WHITE! top speed 90mph only ran wot for a mile.

I could not pull top speed or 5th to its max potential, I noticed this before too on the old plug so great.felt like I was yanking on the throttle and it struggled.

I have my pack of jets ready to go, plop in a 155ab jet aka precision engineering jet and wham another pass for a mile or so and my top speed is now 93mph

    ok we are getting somewhere...

then I restart the bike and all is good..the bike restarts nicely and no kickback and there is no lean cough and die issue either so I finally decide to do ONE last WOT plug chop

for almost 45 seconds...nice and long at full speed

my top speed is no 98mph same as the mikuni

I look at the plug and is has some chocolate colour to it....just on the strap...finally some color so I say well this is good enough and start the ride back up the hill to my house

I detour on some dirt and ride with great fun about 30 minutes...

I notice at this time that the bike responds and feels great really good acceleration no flats spots and really revvy...

so I come back home all happy and cheerful and check the oil

in order to do this I let the bike idle down for a minute or so and let it sit upright while it idles...

oil is at full so great....check that off the list

    THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN

HERE COMES THE KICK TO THE BALLS

I take out the plug for a final looksy just to confirm my seat of the pants jetting and plug chopping and what do I find

A BLACK FUCKIN sooty mess of a new plug...........
    so

    now what peeps?

did the minute long idle do this and why would half a turn out do this

    OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR

is my midrange way fat(where I rode most of the 30minute hill ride up the mountain at) obviously not WOT

to take notice is that my needle is in the second to leanest clip

so one more to go and Im all lean

that just cant be right can it?

    please save me folks!:deal:deal:deal:deal:deal:deal:deal

    Christian,

If this is as good as it has run and you can restart it when warm or hot just put the plug back in it and RIDE THE FRIGGIN THING.

The XR600 has a big ass lump of a pump as a motor. Unless you have a Honda service truck and a factory trained tech standing by for the love of god just call it good and stop the madness.

    Please.
