    I've been riding it around town like that and no complaints from the law or anyone else yet, but they don't sit around with Db meters here. I downloaded a Db meter app last night so I'll try testing it with that from 20ft. Not sure if it's 20ft directly behind the bike, or 20ft at a 45* angle or what. I'll need to look that up.

    yes this is the case, which is good and well designed by honda

    the spindle is perfect..lever splines some are almost gone...

    remember I got crashed into and the lever went spaghuetti and saved my shaft spindle...

    Please take this in the spirit intended, but the quieter our bikes are the better it is for all of us. Most folks in town can't tell the difference between a Harley with open pipes vs. Dual Sport without an insert. They just hear a noisy moto. You should be able to look up the test info to see how you are doing. Some riders have also added a turn down on the pipe to bounce the sound off of the ground first to help dampen some of the noise. The exhaust sound from a big 4 stroke will also carry farther than a 2 smoker for example.
    I am sure my SuperTrapp is not the quietest pipe option, but I keep the packing fresh and have played with the disks and found the compromise between quiet and performance I can live with. Like to know how that app works.

    That's essentially what I'm trying to do. I want decent performance, but not overly loud. The factory insert, even after modifying it a little was very restrictive. I'm happy with the performance of it without the insert, but it's a bit loud. I have a friend of mine welding up a turn-down for it right now which should help a little, but if I need it quieter than that I'll make a custom insert (like the old re-packable Thumper Racing inserts).

    If I had an extra $300 I'd throw down for an FMF Q4, but I don't have the money. When I got the bike it had a god-awful loud old Supertrapp IDS that fell apart in multiple pieces when I tried to repack it. Picked up the 600R muffler for $30 shipped to replace it.

    I would try to have a muffler shop make you a pointed down tip like the xrsonly one back in the day...

    I did this for my stock klr650 muffler which was stainless btw...so I tig welded a stainless 2 1/4inch tip...it quited down beleive it or not and flowed better...not only that but my headers stopped glowing! jajjaja

    I have used standard type loctite with success. It is basically doing the same as what it does for threads.
    Great for worn splines etc... fills all the gaps and stops any movement. It is the movement which causes the wear.
    Also I find the metal surfaces seem to be protected from rust. JFYI

    It would be pretty easy for me to fab up an insert like this one that Thumper Racing used to make.

    For now I'll try just the turndown. If it's still too loud for my taste, I'll stick a re-packable baffle onto it like in the picture.

    ^^That's cool! I've tried to picture a turn down for the SuperTrapp, but it would be like hanging a mailbox off the pipe.

    did some work on the XR today,

    Filled up with oil, kicked it over so the oilpump would move out the air.
    set the valve lashes (0.15mm/0.20mm Hotcam..)
    Mounted the FCR, with some swearing and cutting the adapter I need... :)
    Fiddled with mounting the airbox so it wouldnt hit or barely hit the shock (single carb airbox/twincarb frame)
    removed a piece of fender bracket under the rear fender which didnt support anything.

    and tried on a CRF silencer to see if it would look good..

    I do however see idiots revving the hell out of bikes on the stand like its and old honda total loss system that need to be revved constantly

    Found the carby venthoses!!11!!1!!! yeah!!:clap

    Did swap a few with the original XR carby hoses, FCR's were too short on 2 or 3 spots.
    Mounted the header, need to take it off once to put some heatwrap near the carb, its sitting a bit close. to the accelerator pump housing..
    Cut a new piece of fuel hose, the FCR sits a bit farther away from the fueltap compared to the original dual carbs, note that the fueltap has a 6mm outlet and the FCR has a 8mm inlet.. needed some eh.. 'help' from mister lighter and some lube to slide it over.

    pics inbound, will try and fire it up after dinner. Mom wanted me to come over so I have to leave the garage for once :rofl

    royal kudos on the good work

    Id be interested in a few things you are doing

    1. a pic of the heat shield wrap you plan on using and how you did it, or what wrap you end up using.
    2. Im interested in knowing what adapters you made used for the intake boot and or airbox boot in order to fit the quite big fcr.

    lastly are you planning on dynoing the bike? do you have one near you? Id love to see what you end up with...

    or maybe just an a/f measurement?

    lets get this thread rolling

    In the interest of saving money nowadays and having parts that I cant use etc...for some reason or not here is my next question

    long time ago I bought a jt48 tooth rear sprocket...I wanted to have a middle between my 50 tooth and 45 tooth rear.

    Problem is they sent me a wrong model sprocket used on standard disc hubs which have a smaller circumference where the sprocket attaches to

    so mu question is do you think a hogh quality machine shop would have the ability to BORE the smaller sprocket to a correct size using one of my correct sprockets as a GUIDE?

    the reason I ask is I wouldnt mind using a newer chain I have as my current one is on its last legs

    and please people dont say buy a whole new set of sprockets and chains...mk?

    Ive been doing my chain and sprocket swaps with standard roller chains forever now and suffer NOT from any adverse wear...:D

    not to mention trying to sell off stuff here is as hard as can be:cry
